Hi

I'm about to upgrade my contract and just want to make sure I'm not missing anything here.

The Vodacom Smart 120s package has 7200 seconds airtime, 250MB of data and 100 sms per month @ R450.

If I take a Topup 315s package I can get 7200 seconds @ about R270 (depending on peak/off-peak ratio), 250MB data @ R139 and 100 sms @ R33. That works out at R442. If I make less calls to MTN / CellC or less peak calls the saving gets more.

Are my sums correct?

P.S. I'm probably going to take the Diamond 2 :)

Check Top-up vs Talk 120 - maybe you might not get the same phone (not sure).
To compare.
Use the Talk 120 @ R300pm. Add sms and data bundle.

Better Option.
Take Talk 120s @ R300 (u get the same phones as Smart 120s).
Add an sms bundle depending on yr usage.
Then as data ad hoc on the first day of every 2nd month.
So u can add a 500mb at say R180 for 2 months instead of 250mb @ R140 pm.
Another advantage is u can calculate yr usage as its ad hoc instead of contract.
So u can change the 500mb to 1 gig...

Hope u get my point.
Thats what i do - ad hoc

Good idea on the ad-hoc bundle! That gives me even more reason to go for the TopUp option. Bundles last for 60 days now?

I use SMS and data probably more than actual phone calls - so the greater flexibilty in use that the TopUp contract provides suits me better. That way I can save on costs by phoning less some months, but still not pay more than I would on a Talk package when I do phone more.

As I mentioned in the previous post - 7200 secs on a TopUp account works out at about R270 (R324 if all 7200secs are made to MTN / Cell C in peak time). This makes more sense than the Talk 120s.

Hi AirWolf

Yip - new "contracts" offered by Vodacom.
The Smart 120s has 7200 secs, 100 SMS & 250 MB data for R450.
Smart 500s has 30 000 secs, 100 SMS & 250 MB data for R925.

Call rates are the same as the Talk 120s and Talk 500s respectively.

Ad hoc bundles: Vodacom - last until the last day of the next calendar month (31st).
MTN: end of calendar month is 17th.
So if u load on 1st October, then it will end on Nov 30th.

sms bundles on topup added on

My wife wanted to move from weekender with sms 200 bundle to Topup 315s. We found that vodacom do not allow you to use the R315 to purchase sms bundles, only data bundles.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll be sure to follow that up, it could get pretty expensiive paying 80c a sms!

I had a look on the Vodacom webpage and it seems as if it is possible to load sms bundles on a TopUp package. Can anyone confirm this?

Taken from the Vodacom website:

Easy SMS bundles

Contract and TopUp customers can subscribe to a bundle of your choice and have SMS's credited to your account every month for as long as you need them.
