Ok, so I decided to take the plunge and get a Blackberry. I have mixed feelings about the phone. At times I love it and at times it absolutely drives me nuts. I love the touch screen...very responsive. Here comes the problems.
1. I hate the slide, had it three days and it already feels loose. Its just so fragile. Doubt this phone is going to last very long.
2. Occasionally, I overload the processor and I get the clock of death.
3. I keep getting the download failed about 10% into the download. This is really frustrating.
4. Sometimes I get media processor busy, and no file will play unless I reboot the device. This happens atleast once every 2 days.
5. I can't lock the screen into portrait position. How stupid is this from RIM.
6. Mxit does not work on this phone. It logs in and everything but I can't type. I tried all versions.
7. My BIS international download speeds are so slow even though I have full strength 3g signal on mtn. 15kb/s is just appalling.

Can anyone help me with any of these problems above? Especially numbers 3 and 4. Also my phone keeps saying there are no software updates but I know it's not the latest version. How can I download the latest version on my blackberry.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have virtually none of those problems; 6 months now on the 9800.
1. My slider is a little looser than when I got the phone, but not problematically so.
2. Only time I get the clock, generally, is when installing apps.
3. Nope.
4. Nope.
5. Open the slider.
6. I'm on BES, and MXit doesn't work unless I set APN to internet, which I don't want to do.
7. No issues there.

No phone issues, download speed of BIS sometimes frustrating. Had my Torch for 6 months now.

Interesting, during the day I get at least 100 kb/s. I'm glad it worked chomi. I know it was frustrating the HELL out of me when I couldn't get it done for me. Anyway, all in the past. Happy downloading.

What do you download anyway? Or where do you download from? I've never used my BB to download lots of stuff from the internet. Only do the usual browsing, Facebook and e-mails. It's a pity about the attachment size limit.

Thanks a bunch mate...worked! I can download now, but still so slow. After twlve at night I get over 100kb/s. The rest of the day it's just 15kb/.

That must be the area you are in then. Maybe it carries allot of traffic during the day. I get 15kb/s on edge, but when I am in a 3G area I can just go on and on and on. My files also only fail to download when I am on edge.

Piesang, I download mp3s and videos from a number of places like beemp3.com and vuclip.com and dilandau.something (forgot the extension). I don't think there is a limit anymore. I think BlackBerry removed that limit. I've downloaded files as big as 60MB.

Cool. Will have a look. There is a size limit on e-mail attachments though. I think 2.7MB or something.

It's www.dilandau.com. www.beemp3.com is better though. Only problem is that you can't download an album all at once - you have to download one track at a time. Still worth it and you can get tracks that are so underground that retailers don't sell them. Even found old songs that I loved when I was like 10 years old.

It's interesting no-one has complained on this thread about dropped calls or bad connectivity. I know of 3 people who hate their Torch 9800's as they have continually had dropped calls and no connectivity - maybe it was a bad batch?

No issues with that, apart from Vodacom's poor coverage (and I know it's Vodacom - in my house, the iPhones lose data coverage too).

No call problems on my side either. Maybe just an infortunate few.

Thanks again...so now I have a new problem. Whenever I try and visit facebook profiles through the browser I keep getting this:

This page contains the following errors:

error on line 81 at column 636: EntityRef: expecting ';'
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error.

It's really irritating now. Anybody know how to fix this?

I really don't know GTI. I haven't come across that error before. My Facebook through the browser works just fine. I am guessing you're using the default BB browser right?

Yes default browser. I keep getting that error on facebook. Only the line and column numbers change. When I use opera, it works.
