Hi all

I am waiting for my upgrade and thinking of getting a BB, either the torch or the 9780.
Could users who have the Torch, please tell me if there are any problems with the phone, things you like/dislike
Also, could Bold users do the same as well. Are there any problems with reliability, have you dropped the phone and something happened etc?
I don't want to jump in headfirst and find all this out the hard way. I also see that the 9900 and Torch 2 are coming out, no release dates as yet, would it be worth to wait?

Thanks in advance :)

Release for the 9900 is only expected in September - you could add a couple of months for SA availability. The Torch 2 hasn't been officially announced yet, so at the moment everything Torch 2 is just rumour & speculation.

Hi

I got a BB Torch 9800 and its quite nice for FB,Twitter and Email.

BUT if you use FB, Twitter and Email daily the battery is crap and lasts for not more than a day so you need to be constantly charging it!

Unless you plan on using the phone's media capabilities, get the Bold. I'm finding the Torch to be excessively bulky.

Wait a bit for the 9900!!!!

Sent from my GT-I9000 using MyBroadband Android App

I'm with everyone else - if you wait two or three months you can get the Torch 2 (9900). I think the Bold 2 is out as well (it's a touch screen, don't know if that's the one you're referring to). The problem with waiting for the Torch 2 is, like Speedster said, it's all based on speculation and expectations. No one knows exactly how it compares so you'll be the pioneer if you went for this.

As a Torch user, I really like the phone. My one's battery life is better than my fiance's Bold but then again I don't use a lot of applications like she does. I specifically wanted it and liked it for the size of the screen as well as the graphics quality - it's more crisp and better graphics than my fiance's phone.

It's alot heavier though and fatter too - which I don't mind because it spends more time on the desk next to me than in my pocket. The Torch is also really cool if you watch media on it (movies, series etc.) Like I said, the screen size is cool for me as a mobile. I don't know how my fiance can watch a whole episode (or more in a row) on her Bold's screen.

Hi, the 9900 will be the new BOLD and will be wider than the 9780 with larger keys. As said above the Torch has a great screen but for everyday business use the Bold is great

I will go for the Bold. The 9780 is an awesome device. The 9900 will be really great, but the when and the stability of the first batch is questioned. The Networks in the States are already complaining that RIM is trying the thrust a bug ridden 9900 down their throats. I'm therefore somewhat hesitant and am looking elsewhere already (SE Xperia Pro for example). I would however not be unhappy with the 9780.

The 9900 hasn't been released yet, so that's not the case. I think you're talking about the network approvals process, which RIM have asked carriers to fasttrack because they are so slow at it (for everything, not this phone in particular).

I have the Torch and Facebook, Gtalk, MSN messenger, Twitter and BBM are always on. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi normally on as well. Dont use it to watch video or listen to music. Battery lasts well into day 2 after a full recharge. Love the phone although my trackpad seems to be 'sticky' sometimes.

Thanks for the replies :)

DarkBlood and Freshy-ZN, how is the torch's screen in terms of quality? I like the Bold and it's compactness, but with the 9900 already confirmed to be launched (although no date as yet), it may not be the wisest thing to do. I may go for a torch if there isn't a replacement in the very near future.

Got my 9780 two months ago. Due to hardware problems I took it back yesterday, and was told by MTN that it would take 8 weeks to repair as the phone had to be sent back to Canada. Meanwhile MTN keeps on charging you the Blackberry internet service fee, although they sold you an inferior product. Think twice.

I went yesterday to Cell C and Vodacom, the Vodacom assitant advised me not to get the Torch due to touchscreen problems and errors, Cell C told me that they expect the Bold Touch 9900 around a month's time, they even have it as a pre-order in their booklet, went to ask about that, seems it is not in effect as yet due to pricing problems.

And the winner for the most SHOCKING experience with a Telecom Operator goes to.....*drum roll*

Wet, that is some OTHER story there chomi. I am beside myself now...officially defeated. All I can say is: WOW!

Musiclover: Neither I nor any other people I know who have had the Torch (about four or five) have experienced touch screen problems. Hardware malfunctions are pretty much possible anywhere that you go. My fiance had the Curve since January and just last week we took it in because the mouse button didn't want to work anymore (when we took it in, they lost her phone and gave us a new one - tried to convince us it was the same phone). From a touch screen functionality, I've had no issues with the phone. The graphics quality of the phone are awesome as well. I really like them and found them better then my fiance's phone on comparison.

I wouldn't say the Torch screen is brilliant ... but it's not bad.

I have a Bold 9700 and a Torch and to me, it's day and night difference - love my Torch

I really like the Torch just because a small screen with 65k colour capability is not really what I am looking for. I went and held a Bold 9780 and it feels very well made, I cannot fault it on that at all. Guess I'll have to hold a Torch. How is the Torch with regards to music, video playback, loudspeaker volume and camera qualtiy guys?

I have heard of many issues with the Torch such as battery, slide etc.

I vote 9780 - I love mine
