Howzit Owies,

I got 2 options

6870 or 5870.

I know the 5870 is slightly faster, but im just wondering what i should do because:

CLUB3D 6870 brand new - R2600
XFX 5870 2nd hand (apparntly with warranty etc) +- R3100

Do you think spending that extra cash is worth it ? Surely i could just OC the 6870 slightly and it will almost be on par?

Dude you can get the saphire for 2.6k from rampage gaming if they still have stock. I ordered one.

You would be silly to order the 5870, it is only 4 or 5 FPS faster than 6870. Get the 6870 dude.

Go for the newer tech.
6870 might be slower, but if you ever plan to xfire, price should hopefully only come down for it and the way it scales is....nom nom I guess.

Remember new Nvidia cards come out on the 9th and AMD 69XX is also just around the corner. So you might want to wait till then to decide.

haha okay cool, seems 6870 is the way to go. I'll give it another month or so, check out what the new Nvidia & 6900 are like. thanks

You talking about the paper launch of the GTX580? I doubt anybody anywhere will be able to buy a GTX5xx card before the end of the year. HD69xx I can see arriving at our shores around Christmas but only a few. To the OP, get the 6870. It is perhaps 5% slower than the 5870 but it runs quieter, draws less power, can OC pretty well and scales very well in xfire too

Ignore last comment of mine, i rate i'll go with 6870 then ;) Shot lads

BFG GTX 295. Sick n tired of SLI & old technology,want Dx11.

if anyone wants to take it off my hands for R2200, pm me ! :D haha

nope its Dual PCB :p. Sho R2600 for a Sapphire, nice. ima order me one soon :D

Yes I am referring to the apparent "leaked" date when the sample cards are released and we can see some proper benchmarks for the cards. Nvidia dropped prices on 460/70 for the 68XX series AMD might go down a dollar or two in price themselves, all I was implying with the intention of waiting.
Mind you a 69XX would make a nice Xmas present if it arrives then ;)

Actually, the GTX 580 the "leaked" date of the GTX 580 is the 10th November and they say it will be available in store (american stores that is) on the 11th November and South Africa wont be too far behind. The 6970 is rumoured to be released on the 20th, but this isn't nearly as reliable as the GTX 580 release date.

In terms of 6870 vs 5870, my vote goes for the 6870. Even tho 5870 is slightly better as a single GPU, the 6870 scales better in CF (and even outperforms 5870 cf) so if you ever plan on getting another graphics card you can just get a second 6870.

Ordered myself a 6870. I like the idea i can just gooi in another and have a mad setup, what would be a reccommended PSU for xfire 6870.
Currently i got a Sharkoon 600W and it powers my rig NP. i7 940,6gb ram,4x HDD,DVD, GTX 295
