torrent files "managed" ?

For the last 3 weeks I have not been able to get a torrent file at over 1k per second download, which leads to the obvious conclusion that they are being "shaped"

Oh boy, not only am I getting sub-standard d/l equivalent to a 33.3 connection, but any torrent downloads are being hammered into non-existance.

I'm working on solving this problem, seems most MW bandwidth is dedicated to the transparent proxy. Tunnneling all requests through a outside proxy may help, there're a few commercial proxy providers and a an SSL HTTP tunnel may do the trick.

The transparent proxy would just forward all requests to the outside proxy as standard SSL HTTP traffic therebye utilising the bandwidth of the TP.

Er, been downloading DVD's like crazy via torrents (average 1.75gig a day for the last 7 days approx) and I keep getting speeds close to my max (which is 60kb/s)

Depends on how many people seed etc

I find that all my peer to peer works fine as long as there are enough peers.

What I do find though is often I am uploading faster than I can download! Anyone else find this?

Lol, no, dvd's of punisher and hellboy, seeing as ster kinekor is taking their sweet time bringing these movies to the big screen, I figured I get the dvd version (menu and all, only thing that is gone is the extra's) 4.5gig a dvd, 4 dvd's downloaded since last thursday.... you do da maf

I get the feeling 512k works at full speed while the other packages seem contended. Thats a little counter-intuitive with the unwritten 2GB a day rule.. But hey, 512k'ers pay for the privilege so why not. Its good to see that noone is getting good service. Well.. you know what I mean or at least noone knows what I mean. This could go on forever.
Dude, get the max you can out of the service. Maybe they will realise they need to buy more bandwidth one day.

Kind of implies that their current bandwidth "management" solution gets more flakey as the number of people in a particular pool increases. There must be way more 128k packages than 512k packages.

yes...generally how you'd setup the bandwidth pools is have all the 128k in one pool, 256k in a second and 512k in a third. then you take the number of 128k..divide by the contention ratio and assign that value to the pool..same with the other packages. Then you allow the pools to borrow bandwidth from each other if it's available (They probably didn't do this part)

What they probably found was there wasn't enough total bandwidth to satisfy the ratios..so they decreased the 128k pool by the most, 256k by the second most and 512k by the least.

It'll be interresting to see what their ratios REALLY are.

My speeds are up nicely again but yeah Saul, my uploads are always fukking rocking no matter how *** my downloads are, it's pretty lame.. **** uploads!

and there is actually less upstream uWave bandwidth. Sentech's crude bandwidth scheme obviously only applies (read: throttles) downstream traffic.

only p2p that goes fast for me is bittorent,the others like edonkey and kazaa never go higher than3 or 4 KB/s
