What downstream speeds on your torrents have you guys been getting lately?

I'm on Mweb 4mb uncapped and averaging 140-160kb/s.

I thought the norm for 4mb was at least 200-300kb/s so I'm a little concerned... just upgraded from a 512k connection so I was hoping for a bit more than I'm getting. And it's 11.30pm now so no shaping.

It's because it's uncapped, enjoy having no cap, yes the speeds are lower but you really can't expect full 4mbit torrent for R500.

I'm on the trial account (512kbit) on a 4mbit line, I'm getting 14kb/s but that's fine, I just let things download from 00:00 - 08:00, sure it takes longer but I've got the freedom to get more than I ever could with capped accounts, I think if you want to download torrents in larger quantities, the uncapped unshaped account will better suit you.

I don't care about the shaping, I understand why they have to shape, 1Tb for R500 would kill any ISP, and during the day I can stream radio as much as I want, which I do, I can use skype as much as I want, loving the uncapped.

I am also getting between 100 - 200kb/s on Mweb 4MB uncapped... and like calvincoetzee says, speeds are low, but it is uncapped...

Scrak0verflow, what is wrong with mweb?

I wouldnt say anything.....
On topic, Mweb rep has mentioned a few times that their uncapped is a shaped service. ONLY if the priority protocols slow down to the point they have excess 'bandwidth', will they open the gates for non-priority protocols such as P2P etc. The slow speeds may just mean priority protocols were in use for many hours of the day.

You should try a normal download (stopping P2P if need be) from IGN/Fileshack etc and see what speeds you get with that.

Only getting 20kB/s torrent downloads with a 4mb uncapped, even overnight. Direct downloads are flying at 3mb though. Reckon this is ISP shaping or another issue?

Avg I got with my mweb 4mbps uncapped line 150 - 180kbps - If I added more torrents, it split up.

I now use aerovps and get avg 400 - 450kbps which is very decent. Movie takes me about 40 minutes to download 700mb avi.

I've got a 4Mb line, and MWeb uncapped. I'm getting around 100Kb/s (office hours), and around 150Kb/s (after hours). Is that as good as it gets? Also was wondering what role seeders & peers play in the final speeds. Do I need a certain ratio of seeders to peers, or is it simply the higher the better? thanks alot
sparky :)

PS I'm only talking about torrents. All other protocols are healthy approx. 450Kb/s

That's about as good as it's going to get, some people have it worst- I think you're quite lucky with those speeds, my Mweb 4mb uncapped was getting like 50kbps.

I got a TFVPS from AeroVPS, so now I can channel all my torrents through HTTP, so I'm getting like 420kbps on my torrents now. :)

Yeah I saw that post somewhere else, I need to go check it out. Not exactly sure how it works though, does that mean I bypass U-torrent?

Yeah, a lot of uncapped users have gone that route already.

Just quickly, you get a server in the US with a 100mbps line. It has its own web based torrent downloader, so you download your movie or whatever on there, it can take like 15 minutes for it to finish a movie, then when its done you bring it to South Africa with Free Download Manager (HTTP). So you cut uTorrent out, you're basically downloading the completed torrent files from a website, which is NOT shaped! Nice accessory to have with uncapped as its only like R70/mo.

You get a dedicated IP and domain. It's not one address, every person gets his own address and IP. To shape it they need to shape port 80 (HTTP) - yeah right :D
