Yesterday I started a torrent and it downloaded near full speed for my connection (around 21KB/s, I have DSL192). This morning at around 8 I checked on it and the speed had gone down to 10KB/s, but since it was already done 90% I didn't mind too much. Around 9:30 this morning however, I got disconnected, and upon reconnecting torrents don't work AT ALL.

The upload and download rates stay at 0KB/s almost permanently. Every now and then it goes to 1KB/s, and then drops dead again. I've tried it with different torrents to make sure.

I'm not capped, and my user stats show only 1.4GB of usage for the month so far. Websites come up fine, and HTML downloads go fast as always. When I run the torrents I close everything except Bittorrent.

Is anybody else experiencing slow / non-existent torrent speeds this morning? Could Telkom decide to block the Bittorrent protocol alltogether or would they face a legal nightmare if they did that?

My torrents are running fine, full speed. What port are you using? Sometimes this happens and I change my port, usually works fine after that.

Yep just change your port on bittorrent, spermcount is doing everything they can to shape torrent ports but tsk tsk if they shape all ports no data will flow. :P

I am using bitcomet for local dl's and have been for the past 7 or 8 months tried all the others - bittorrent, e-donky, e-mule etc. but bitcomet to me is the best - easy to use and no funny stuff just install set ports to random and off you go, I get decent speeds using a 512k averaging at about 49k - 52k although it should be in the 60k region for local dl's and actually for intl. I use e-mule and get speeds of up to 40k depending on the amount of seeders i get.

I have been getting issue's with certain torrents aswell. It seems that only some torrents work very slow. www.point-blank.cc:7001 ocassionally I have issues with their torrents. Its no the torrent as I can see other users getting insanely high speeds. Its most likely the link to them

You should also remember that torrents would sometimes slow down a lot towards the end. If you have a lot of seeds it should fly, otherwise you will see it drop severely as everybody tries to get their data.

I saw this in action the other day. The new Coldplay album had just been seeded. Only one. Hundreds of people jumped onto it. The d/l went well till about 90%. Then it crawled. Eventually some people got the whole thing down, and started seeding. Boom! Exponential speed increase :)

Naa Its a strange problem... Its not AYCE becoz it the same thing with the saix account. Certain torrents would crawl(5k) for hours and then at a certain time it would just shoot up to 40-50k again. Seeds are always more than 20
