Torrents not work?

Hi guys. I am new to this site, but been reading it on and off for about a year.

Anyways. I have been with neotel for about 2 months now (Neoflex 5gig).
My connection has been good about 70% of the time but lately i am unable to download torrents anymore. They just sit on about 1 kbps :(. Tried to see if ports are blocked and it seems they are. Also i tried calling neotel and they are unable to help me for some odd reason stating that they dont understand why I am having a problem.

Can someone please help or does neotel not allow torrents anymore?

Hey Moabi - welcome!

I (and a few other people i know) have been having the exact same problem. Normal browsing works perfectly (for a change) but torrents dont work at all. Speeds on torrents are so bad that it will take me over 6months to download a 1gig file. I have tried everything but i am almost certain Neotel is shapping or even blocking torrent ports

Still waiting for an answer on this myself.

PS: Dont bother with the call centre - they are a complete joke - a useless bunch who dont even know what Ports are and what Shapping is.

It would be good to see how they explain that one away. They advertise Neoflex as being totally unshaped :/

Exactly.. This is going to be interesting. ICASA and/or the ASA are going to be getting a phone call.
 
Torrents

Hey Guys!

I sent my stats as well off to NOC to show the torrents capabilities, and so am floating the same boat.
Interesting to see what they will revert back to me with....

Still, i do know we don't shape / throttle....

Luf - send me your details, i can check if all your ports are open and or if we need to open them...

My speed while downloading from torrent website is great on good seeded torrents, the speed is normally between 100KB/s and 200KB/s and sometimes 222KB/s

What package is that on Hein_JHB ? Neoflex presumably ?
I tested a Torrent download this morning using uTorrent and was getting 17kB/s as it's supposed to be using Lite Uncapped, my ports are still unblocked so make sure on your ports are unblocked guys.

Maybe your modem don't wanna sin.
 
Try setting your torrent port to 8080 and forcing encryption. I haven't noticed anything different but some people seem to think ISPs don't recognize it as torrent activity (8080 is generally used for proxies). Also, read this. It might help.

I don't think you should do any of that if the product is shaped, that might be considered illegal or something but from what I've read you won't be doing anything untoward.
