are all the torrents slow for u guys. Can anyone maybe explain wat Telkom did on the first.

my torrents extremely slow today, actually wait they have never been fast

Im getting 50kb/s on my adsl 384k, make sure your port is set to something else than 6881, preferably above 50 000.

Torrents where crawling last night as well. Usualy i'd get 30-35k but I couldn't get anything faster than 4k last night.

ok and where are the other torrents sites?

I might be wrong but i have a suspicion that most torrent sites are illegal, i for instance paid $30 to download movies and later found out that it was through torrents.

Some of the movies available are not even out on the circuit here.

So i would use these torrent sites with caution.

me too my connection is maxing at abt 8KBps now.....

Please explain how this is done, im dying over here

In your incoming port settings change the port from 6881 to 50000 and adjust your firewall accordingly.

Though BitTorrent is getting a bad rap for illegal movie downloads it is also used legally in many ways such as software distribution etc.

Excellent BitTorrent Client:

Search sites:

Changing the port:
You may have to change the port forwarding in your router/adsl modem. In Azureus Tools/Options/Connection/Incoming TCP listen port - usually 6881.

I use bitcomet, but any bittorrent client should have a place where you can change the listen port, usually under options or preferences, and besides that I do nothing out of the odinarry. Also make sure your firewall is not blocking outside IP's to your PC (allow the program and the port in the Anti virus settings).

You guys are lucky at least you have torrents at all, i live in lonehill, joburg and we signed up for an internet package that connects our computer to another persons internet conection through an acsses point, the internet is really slow yet their is no cap but the catch is they insist to block every port exept http, ftp, e-mail and a few boring others. Online gaming, p2p, torrent and every thing else gets blocked so i cant do anything. Nada zippo zip

Ok, wow well at least its working now still not great struggling to get above 8kbs with limewire and 4kbs with bitcommet.

If its working at all does that mean its working? I think ive enabled the ports on the firewall, but if i haven't how would i know?

Is there anything else that can be done to boost the speed? Does the choice of port make a difference?

Torrents listen on port 6881
Its claims its the most effective speed and easy to use.
Are you sure your not in the shaping time?
