Ok so the debate about whether Fernando Torres should be in Spain's World Cup starting lineup in the semi-final against Germany continue ahead of Spain's run towards the final of the World Cup. Del Bosque is considering dropping him to the bench for the game and replacing him with Fernando Llorente.
My personal opinion on this is as follows: I think Torres should start. He does create space for everyone around him, just watch the 3 or 4 defenders that he draws in and then frees the next man up with sublime passing. What I found interesting about the Torres vs Llorente substitution vs Portugal, was that Llorente simply stayed front and center and did nothing other than wait for the ball. Torres can do that too, if instructed to. What annoyed me about that game was how much ball Llorente proceeded to get from his team mates, where Torres had practically been starved off the pitch. He's out there, chasing the gaps, and his team mates are too busy passing laterally or waiting for Villa or Xavi to get into position.
I also believe that Spain's "slow" style of passing and patient build ups doesn't suit Torres. He's the best at beating offside traps, but by the time his team mates are done building up and the ball actually gets to him, his run has been picked up by the defenders already. Hope this World Cup makes him realize that this is what would occur if he went to Barcelona. I so hope he realizes it.
I would like cantera's (or something like that) views on this.
