This just popped up on Slashdot, it'll most likely be slashdotted any moment now :-

http://students.guildhall.smu.edu/eclipse/

Around November, 2004, several students got together to brainstorm a concept for a total conversion of Valve's Half-Life 2 . After several days of brainstorming, the concept for Eclipse was born.

In January of 2005, a group of Guildhall students composed of programmers, artists, and level designers were put together and formed what is now CelTech Studios. It was then that CelTech Studios made the commitment to produce the highest quality game possible in the short amount of time they had - five months. What emerged in late May was a game that is both stunningly beautiful and addictive to play.

The screenshots etc. look impressive - can't seem to get a download going however, so I'm putting this here to remind me to try later.

BTW, Guildhall is one the premier schools for game design in the US, so this is bound to be a quality TC.

EDIT: Looks like it's been hammered by slashdot already :- obligatory google cache link :-

I am on standby this weekend ... already had a diskcrash this afternoon at one of our sites in JHB but was relatively easy to fix (one of the blessings of not using Windows).

Pretty damm cold here in C.T ... got a gas heater today so I am roasting my nuts ;).

My bittorrent is going at 40.3K ... HAHAHA I beat you by .3K ... Telkom rocks ;).

haha - yeah, not too cold in joburg - got my electric heater on, busy zapping what little moisture there is in the air. Typical joburg winter :-

Morning : Freeze your nads off, put on too many clothes
Late Morning to Early Afternoon : Gets too warm, take of half your clothes
Later Afternoon to Evening : Gets cold, Freeze your nads off, sit in front of the fire
Rinse and repeat.

I think I prefer it to wet, windy weather - we get to see the blue sky and sun every day, even if it is tinged with a gazillion tons of pollution and dust ! :D

But then, we haven't hit half way through July when everyones noses and throats feel like they've been heartily rubbed with sandpaper and half the people are suffering from skin problems !

Well I istalled it played it via steam and erm.. I dont like it. I played until you get the journal book thingie and then my pc froze
Anyways the girl playing the lead character is not bad. The graphics using the Valve engine is kinda cool. Enough said I dont think Ill give it a second go

Hmm, no crashes here. The graphics are unbelievable. Not sure if I like the Tomb Raider style controls though.

Any more feedback? A simple review mebe? Score out of 10?

Amazed at the graphics, didn't like the game play.

To be honest, you can't really score it as it's not a commercial project, but more of a training ground for upcoming industry artists, programmers and designers - which is what the guildhall is all about.

I didn't get too far into it - will give it another try.
Got frustrated trying to kill the first goblin thingy.

The main character also walks like a total wierdo, she really looks like she's flouncing around on the catwalk, other than that, the design is close to professional.

Worth a look, if only to see how versatile the HL2 engine is.
