Total Secure 2009

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get rid of the malware "Total Secure 2009"? A friend has been infected and it has hijacked her laptop by disabling her internet connection, constant popups etc. I'll be getting the laptop tomorrow to see if I can have it cleaned but I'd like ot get some feedback from here first...
