Touch pad dead

Hi, my client got a Acer 17" emachine laptop. The touchpad stoped working. If we plug a USB mouse in the mouse works. The touch pad in not disabled, we have switched it form enabled to disabled and back via the second function key. In device manager the driver does not appear, I have select show hidden device drivers remove the touch pad driver and after restart the driver is back but only under hidden devices? and still no luck

Sounds like a hardare issue. Youll have to open it up to inspect, if under warranty take it in for repair.

My fujitsu laptop had a weird issue that the left mouse button never working. I opened the thing up to notice that the cable needed reseating. During the process I broke the connector on the MB and there went the entire touchpad. I havent bothered to get it repaired as I gave it to my folks as they use a USB mouse anyway.

try a alps driver or get the latest synaptic driver v10

Thanks we updated the driver and it came back to life. Acer has still not responded to the support request
