My daughter has a Elonex Webbook with Windows XP SP3 (see my signature for specs). Everything was fine till the wife shut it down earlier today. When she turned it on later the touch pad stopped working  I backed up all her data to flash did a recovery to factory defaults. Still nothing checked the device manager no mouse in the device manager  I scanned for hardware devices NOTHING.

Did I miss anything ?

The webbook is less than 2 months old. Mine is working fine. I will be buying her a mouse just would like to get the touch pad working again for those time she don't feel like plugging in the mouse.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

check for a function key to disable touchpad...normally Fn+F7 or thereabouts.

Happened to me a while ago after using a Knoppix LiveCD. Rebooted into Windows XP SP3 - no click when you tap the touchpad. Two reboots later, and the problem disappeared. Still don't know what happened.

Well the Fn+F4 worked on mine but nothing worked on her machine it alsso now have problems booting up. I am pissed now. Thanks for the help guys

take it back (2 months, should b under warranty)! My old hp has the same problem. Out of warranty, so didnt bother, but the touchpad just doesn't work... used to be my sisters, and she said she just booted it one day and the mouse wasn't working. Cant start it again, no matter wat OS i run.
