Towbar for a Tiguan

VW sells towbars for R8.5K (LOL) but I got written consent from them that I can install another towbar and it won't void my warranty. That is, if it's properly installed and doesn't stuff up other things in the car.

Can anyone recommend a good place to have a towbar installed?
I'm in Centurion.

Why do I need a towbar? I'm getting a boat, byotches! A very small sailboat, but it's still awesome :)
 
There are a couple of things that make manufacturers wary of aftermarket towbars, and that is why VW wants you to sign something to say that you are aware that it's not OE.

1. - Wiring harness must contain some sort of fuse or be powerful enough to prevent globes popping either on the trailer or the car. Many of the cheaper fitment centres just splice in to the existing harness and that will void your warranty of anything inter related.

2. - The OE VW bar has the correct harness and is also tested up to a certain weight and pulling strength.

There is a reason why OE towbars are more expensive, but in the end, it's up to the owner of the car - if you are happy to live with something that possibly won't let you down, but actually could, then go for the cheaper one.

Other way around - he got them to sign something saying that they will not void his warranty if he installs an aftermarket towbar.

That's fine, if they are willing to do it. With us, you have to sign that you are aware that you are not getting an OE approved product.
 
Just got quoted over R17000 for the supply and fitment of a 5N0092161A TOW HITCH & 5N2055204 INST.KIT...and I feel that is crazy. Any alternatives to mobiletowbars as I do not think they operate in my area.
