So going through previous threads on the forum, it was stated that a towbar with installation could cost anywhere from R4000 depending on the make of the vehicle and requirements.
I dont expect to pay that much since all I require from the towbar is to mount bicycles onto it and I dont have any rear parking sensors or ever going to use a trailer so wiring loom is not required.
I have an SUV so the bike rack with straps is not an option as i think it will be too much of hassle.

Is bike rack on a towbar more convenient and what could it cost for the towbar.
I am using the roof space for camping gear still looking for a proper rack.

I doubt that there’s a cheaper line of weak tow bars being marketed specifically for bike racks. Even if there were, sometime someone is going to hook a trailer onto it and cause a problem. If you want a tow bar, you’re going to have to buy one that’s made for your vehicle and that’s going to cost a few thousand at least. Perhaps you could find one second hand from a scrapyard somewhere and fit it yourself to save some money. A tow bar will probably cost between R3500 and R7000. Roughly. Depending on the vehicle. And on the tow bar - the cheaper ones don’t have the bolt-on ball, which you probably want so that you can bolt your bike rack on instead.

Sell your car and buy a car with a tow bar.:D
