Tower 110, Helderkruin, Jhb speed problems?

Jhbgirl, have you tried Horizon View tower again? I am 5km from the tower and haven't had problems on it for weeks (besides the day you experienced frequent disconnects on it - tower people must've been working on it that day).

I can find it but it won't connect to it anymore. We are less than 6k's away from it so I dont even know why it won't. I've got the modem with a pringles can pointing at a wall now and it's picking up something. I don't know what though because we are on a router. I suppose I have to plug in the usb (would have to if I call tech support anyway) Maybe it is 126. If you breathe near it it disconnects though. It's very unstable.

JHBGirl - I thought you were one of the early antenna adopters ? ... I was part of the pringles brigade for a while but have move to a proper 13dbi patch antenna - my discconect problems have all but dissapeared. I'm on the border of reception to 12(Mintek) - sounds rather similar to your situation.

We played around with the 21dbi dish outside but it can't find 110 at all. It finds 126 but it won't connect to it. Called tech support and they say there is no problem.

JHBGirl, sounds like a problem I had 2 weeks ago sunday morning, I also have a dish, and completely lost the tower, called support, they also said there is nothing wrong, fiddled on the roof for many hours trying to get a signal again, with no luck.
Then went driving around the tower with the modem, and realised the node I usually connect from my house was dead, after 15 minutes of convincing the ORC that the problem is not on my side, he agreed to log a ticket, 3 hours later, everything was oprational, I called back to ask what the problem was, and he responded that they needed to RECYCLE the cell.

call your friendly neighberhood ORC, and persist that its on his side, maybe suggest they recycle the node your trying to connect to, it requires you telling him the frequency you usually connect at, and tower number, and his 2nd level can do it from the comfort of his chair!

After numerous calls back and forth the technician finally admitted there was a problem and he fixed it. Sheesh. I hate the way you have to argue with them and insist that there is a problem.

why dont we complain on a daily basis about 110? even if nothing is wrong

that way we get our point accross, because its cheaper to just fix the blerrie stuff instead of paying techies to fix it everyday

Why do you have to "put your two cents in"... but it's only a "penny for your thoughts"? Where's that extra penny going to?

110 (Helderkruin) disconnects now and again but overall it's MUCH faster than it's been since late Wednesday.

What I don't understand is that these okes don't work smarter (just realised that may be impossible at Sentech) but our Mail/Firewall servers send us a status packet every 30 minutes so that our engineers usually know about a problem before our customers even realise it. This is not so hard to do...I mean if a tower has no users connecting to it for an hour or so, chances are that there is something wrong with that tower...

Gosh, this is what p's me off the most. You phone in, they tell you nothing wrong on Sentech side, you spend 2 - 3 hours up the roof, fiddling, swearing, doing all sorts of things when the problem is actually on their side. FSCK, you get back what you put out and it's now wonder that Sentech gets so little respect from anyone, cause they don't have any for themselves, let alone their stupid customers.

Oh no they insisted there were users connected to all the nodes on the tower so it couldn't possibly their fault.

hey hey

My over past 3 weeks have been snail pace. I phone the sentech support desk, the guy says to me the connection ratio is 30:1 so if there are 29 other users on the 256k package on the same tower then you will get 256k/30 users = 8.533 div 2 = 1kbs . Thats his version of explaining to me why i will never get above 1kbs. sigh [xx(]

You seem to be forgetting the whining users base. All they need do is wait for somebodt to penetrate the first level support and get a ticket open. That seems to be their mechanism for detecting tower failure.
