Tower distance calculator

I've added in Hurlyvale tower in Edenvale, according to where Proasm stated it is, and where I saw it. I'm about 870m away [:D]. I get 19% signal where my pc is located, which is on the opposite side of the house facing the tower. If I move my modem to the right side, I get 30% [:)]

Hmmm, apparantly i am 6000km's from sunnyside :P

ProAsm/Rodent,

I was wondering if perhaps the modem gives one some sort of indication of the time lag between sending a signal and receiving an acknowledgement from the tower.

Why I am asking, older GSM cell phones like (Nokia 51/61 series phones, also 6210), have on the (normally hidden) Netmonitor menu a value called "timing advance", which if multiplied by 550 meters gives you the distance to the tower (in steps of 550 meters). GSM also uses TDMA, and GSM also have a distance limitation (34.5km) usually, so my logic suggests the modem should have a similar parameter one can analyse/read.

Concerning time lapse....

The Mcps value that one can retrieve is supposed to give a ratio from which a distance can be calculated but it doesn't seem to be correct at all.

Darn if only the towers had a range of 17,5km i'd be covered...

nicroets could you possibly modify your site so it also shows the gps coordinates of the towers thay you have.

* Fixed "hELDERKRUIN"

Hit the sentech zone locator site. Find your stand, hover the mouse pointer over it and the coordinates will be display in the explorer bar at the bottom.

Now eat your food or there's no tv tonight [:D]

Do you want a sweet ? [:I] Just get into the car....[:0]

The easiest way is to find your house with the zone locator. Then hold the mouse pointer over your house. In the bottom left two numbers will update as you mouse the mouse.

The one with the minus is your "Degrees south" (25.5 to 26.5 for gauteng, more for Dbn & Cpt) and the other one is the "Degrees east" (28.2 for gauteng, lower for Cpt and higher for Dbn.

If you use a GPS that display the numbers as 28.12.23.1, make sure you put in at least 2 dots in the form even if it's 28.12.0

Someone said there is GPS coordinates on www.icasa.org.za of all the TV towers. Does anyone have a link ?
