Tower heavily degraded

Hey, right now the Northcliff tower is heavily degraded all of a sudden...it used to be bad, but now it's a solid 10db lower....anybody else having this issue? I looked at the status on the website, and it's green??

crap, im wrong, it's Totally down. no wonder, im connecting to the linden tower now. argh! C'mon Iburst, fix this.

I also use Northcliff tower, it has been going down for a while now. I get massive amount of choke when playing online(never get choke over 50). Least when it is fixed it will be good and better......i keep fingers crossed.
 
Seeing network congestion on Roodekrans BS aswell, it appears Kenmare and that un-monitored Wilropark BS, one of the two is down and the status page doesn't reflect it. I was using the new BS with a directional antenna and now this morning I had to unplug all that 'cos speeds were worse than a dial-up modem.
 
Around 19H00 last night I lost my connection for few minutes, and i could have thought that it was problems with Roodepoort or one of the towers connecting to the upstream providers

You got me thinking, last night when the northcliff was down, and I had to connect to Linden, the signal was 10db lower. Which was bad, coz the strength was around 100 then. But my upload bandwidth decreased dramatically. Normally at 90db i can upload at around 10KB/s, but when it dropped to 100, the upload cut down to around 3KB/s. Does 10db have that effect or is it because the signal was just so much worse at 100db?
 
every 3db lower is half signal strength as it is a logarithmic scale
 
Yeah the tower was down but it has degraded over the last few months well by my opinion, keeps getting slower by the day when DBi remains the same.
 
I'm resurrecting this thread to highlight again just how bad the Northcliff tower is. Being recently ex-64k dial up I'm forgiving when it comes to less than perfect connections, but these past few days have been unacceptable.

At around today 16h30 I hooked up utTraceStar and monitored my signal for 30 minutes - average -82db - not great, but OK, and fairly constant.

I then ran the iBurst speed test - download speed 83.2kbps - upload speed 38.1 kbps. This is uncapped, btw.

A 1.1MB file downloaded from the iBurst web site using Free Download Manager came in at around 15 to 17KB/s (on two threads).

Skype has been unusable for the past few days.

Your signal strength is considered to be the average signal, so that's ok. Your speed test result is terrible though, mine is 30kB/s on a signal strength of 90.

The problem with the Northcliff tower is that it is badly situated and heavily overloaded. Iburst should do something about this. I hope this scares potential customers away till they do something about it. Even if they don't connect to this tower, it shows that their towers get iBusted.
 
Yes, I think it's the overloading that's killing it for me - between midnight and 2am last night the Skype Out calls I made were of reasonable quality. I tried a call a short while ago and had to abandon it and make a Telkom call.
