Tower information

Yes you are correct, sorry about theat, a typo [:I]

27.0756 E - 26.1031 S should read 28.0756 E - 26.1031 S

I have corrected the post.

Hi all,

It's a real pity that in Cape Town only the "Boerewors curtain" gets so many towers....

1 Tower in Wynberg !!!!!! HELLO Stalled-Tech , there are computers in the south of the peninsula.... 9.1km away have u tried to negotiate to get onto the Plessey high spot yet?

btw How many times must I click on Zone-locator to get a tower up???

Excuse my ignorance. But can someone please explain how the sectoring works. i.e What does the numbers 1-120-240 mean.

And where do I get a map where I can plot the Long & Lat co-ordinates on.

Thanks
Clive

No problem.

Look 2 posts back for a link to "MyWireless Stuff" in ProAsms signature. Its all there

for lat/long you must consult the broadband zone locator at www.sentech.co.za AKA "check if you're zoned"

I've discovered www.brabys.com also have maps of SA. It's a lot faster.

I've changed the script to load you a map of the place your querying.

Thanks greedyflyza

It's all so clear to me now (2001 Space Oddesy)

I always wondered what those silly little numbers at the bottom of the zonelocator meant. Go figure. I thought they were there just to keep you occupied while you wait for the map to load.

Ok, so...

Code:
Randburg (Metro Centre)	[82]	(28.00.19	26.05.40)	2.469 km	344 degrees	24%	-82dBm
Council Mineral Tech	[12]	(27.58.42	26.05.15)	2.601 km	51 degrees	23%	-83dBm

...and...

Code:
Killarney [82]	(28.03.14	26.09.59)	1.002 km	287 degrees	32%	-74dBm
Hyde Park [66]	(28.01.59	26.07.31)	4.414 km	165 degrees	19%	-87dBm
Sentech Tower (Brixton)	[126]	(28.00.26	26.11.31)	4.849 km	49 degrees	18%	-88dBm

but the modem doesn't pick up a signal at all at either location (yes, if you're clever, you can now triangulate my locations [:p]) It does work at other locations, so it's presumably not broken.

Any ideas?

nic,

what does the % column indicate? It seems to not be related to the signal input.. is it the maximum signal at x distance or what?

Also, why do you ask for signal strength.. are you perhaps building a haphazard kind of "footprint" on the map - that would make some interesting reading.

Would it be possible to use cookies or autocomplete or something so we dont have to type in coordinates the whole time.

I still dont get what 98 degrees means. Is this from true north? ie. angle from true north line to line between me and the tower?

% & dBm is what I would expect (given LOS)
I was considering a footprint, but the logs show that very few people know what they are doing.

"Auto complete" will be done shortly.

98 degrees from the tower to you. 180+98=278 degrees from you to the tower. determine antenna.

OK, I think I've perfected the calculator.</i>

Just a question. Should we give your calculator the information in D.M.S, or is it a decimal value all the way?

--deckert

The calculator supports both, and will warn you if there is a possible mistake, e.g. 28.1245 often mean 28.12.45. Use 28.12450 to get rid of the warning.

OK, I see someone logged 2 observations form the same house, so I had to fix the calculator to show both observations.

oops, that would have been me ;-)

I can see 66,102,22,12,82,110 on a goooood day ;-) ... too bad I cannot connect to almost ALL of them ;-)

btw... Has anyone heard anything about the new version of the software ? I'm to lazy to plug the MyWireless back to a Windows PC ;-)
