I always connect to Tower [22-nb2] La Montagne, Pretoria. This morning my connection went down at 04h15 for about one and a half minutes, and when it reconnected I was attached to Tower [116-nb2]. Signal frequency (2.518) and signal strength are about the same as before, so I don't think this is another tower. Anyway, none of the existing or planned towers in Pretoria have number 116.

Anyone else got a new tower number?

This coupled with an announcement from Sentech:-

"Gauteng Antennae upgrade: 2 August 00:00 - 06:00"

"A software upgrade is scheduled for the Gauteng MyWireless antennaes. All MyWireless customers accessing the MyWireless network via these antennaes will be unable to access the network during this period."

It is great that Sentech are making these announcements, but it would be much better if they gave us more details. I wonder what software version they have upgraded to?

Yeah, tower 12 Mintek seems to have changed into 82 now...

oh goodie! even more confusion! Tower12 might not have changed to 82, I always used to be able to pick up both, not anymore. Whereabouts are you Bishop? You might just be picking up 82 now, instead of 12. Which I would prefer, 'cos 82 is MUCHOS better than 12. Well, used to be...

*sulk*

Kai, I'm in Bryanston, and 12 was the ONLY tower I could pick up. I played a little this morning, trying to find it again, but only 82 is popping up now. Same signal strength and location as 12 used to be... I recon it has changed. Unless they really did something funny

hmm.. interesting. hopefully they burnt down 12, and I can use 82 now, 'cos that USED TO BE better. will have to check tonight

From previous discussions with the MIA ProASM - the tower numbering has to do with the layout of towers in an area. If some towers have changed to 82 I would assume they are now primary concentrators for an area and that we'll be seeing additional towers going up around the primaries.

btw - 82 seems to be the godsend number ;-) ...

Oooh ooh! Additional towers please! If they actually roll out the Bryanston tower like they were planning, my signal should improve dramatically! Unless it gets too strong and overwhelms my modem of course...

signal strength does squat to speeds - it would seem. I can go from one light to four, and it still sucks...

If you really want to get into semantics on a stupid name, they have been incorrectly numbered on most the lists, in fact, 102 is the Golf Park, and 22 is fourways exchange.
BUT
to rephrase what I said previously for the good of the forum, tower 22 in fourways is now 66.

They are obviously doing major work to the "grid" and the way it's laid out. Signal strength has about as much effect on MyWi performance as offering the modem a bath does. We tested it. Even with 52% signal (the maximum ever achieved) right next to a tower, the speeds are the same.

I reckon anything above say 10% will give you good enough transmission.

Tested giving the modem a bath ? [:D][:D]

Looks like the "antenna upgrade" was a switch-off-change-number-and-reboot procedure. Now there will only be even more confusion with the numbering. They still seem to be sticking to the 36/66/82/12 method and not linking unique numbers like 37 with towers. Why not when they were obviously changing the numbers..

Is it me or are they slowing with the adding of new towers?

contacted nowire and sentech... according to both there has been NO change in tower numbers ....

bbbahahahahahahahaa...

If they're NOT smoking MySmokeSignal, I want some.

Noticed the Bedfordview change ..... 36 disappeared ..... got 110 Linksfield and then mistery tower 60.

They must be doing something, hope it is the right thing ! [8D]

Pass the pringles please ....

what scares me is that Sentech themselves don't know about this... actually... what am I saying!? it's incompetence in it's best form... ergo, it HAS to be true!
