Is anyone else experiencing disconnects from the Tower side of things ?

Specfically Tower12 (253000) - Mintek.

I'd like to put the info together and send a report to Sentech...

In general I guess it should not be a hassle but I find that the tower dissapears for a short while and my modem then locks onto 82 that it cannot connect with.

As an aside I believe I've got the the pppoe data sorted - just making modifications to the rp-pppoe software to test... I hate it when suppliers don't stick to the specifications !!!!

Every week or so, Menlo Park goes completely down. Then my modem picks up Sunnyside, but can't connect. When Menlo gets back, it's still stuck on Sunnyside, and I have to press its reset button.

All this means it's not possible to leave the modem completely unattended for weeks and weeks.

Sounds intriguing

basically,

using custom extensions to the pppoe spec we can get/set AT commands to the modem. This obviously only works in PPPoE mode - ethernet mode....

My plan is to have a keep-alive application... if it notices repeated connects with no sucsess it wil check the tower number... if need be it will then issue the reset command...

I should probably look at writing the same for windows with USB but it's not my focus.

If someone convinces ProASM to release his Mysignal source I'd add that - I'm not going to re-invent the wheel... For the same token ProASM could easily add this functionality to his already excellent application himself ;-)

ps will keep you posted...work pressure is not allowing too much oppertunity to work on this [:(]

1. When you disconnect or get disconneted it takes several seconds before the "comport" comes available to you to readdress the modem as you cannot address it while its online.
2. Doing a reset, it removes the comport from your application altogether and you cannot get it back, its like removing the USB cable and putting it back so your application has to start again from scratch.
3. During the reset, your application has to keep "trying" the modem until it gets access again to open a "new" comport, and when it finally connects, there is a 99.9999999% chance that the modem connects back to where it was that caused the problem in the first place.

This makes the whole exercise futile - hence I dumped the idea.

If one could force the frequency list, or overwrite it like you can with a cellphone system it would really be great but you can't.
Trying to get info etc from IPWireless, you better off getting info from [email protected]

Out tower (sunnyside 36) also goes down about once a week. However, it does not go completely off which is annyoing since Kingsley Centre is actually closer to me and I would like to see if I could connect to another basestation (one day) other than 36. I think sunnyside is a pretty "powerful" one so for that to happen it would probably require a local power failure which is mostly unlikely. Problem is, all Pretoria traffic goes out via Sunnyside's microwave "farm" so its a catch22 anyways..

When I spoke to support yesterday when I couldnt connect, the support guy actually said "Did you try to pick up kingley centre". Ok now I must ask, what does this mean? Since if I reset (which is necessary for a new basestation search) it ALWAYS picks up sunnyside even at 2%. Unless he thought there was a dropdown box or some button that does that. They really are well informed about how things work [/sarcasm]

I also get disconnected the whole time - which means a trip to the roof everytime :-( My modem lock on to 82 then (with good signal but no response to connect, which is tricky because I am in Sundowner so 82 can be Honeydew/Radiokop or Randburg Metro, dunno which one)

The only way to get reconnected again is to reset the friggin modem... then it should connect to 12 again (now and then to 66). My girlfriend made the joke that my modem suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder which wasn't that funny at the time [:)]

Anyway, the best I've done so far is 2 days and 4 hours (which I thought was quite good) I am waiting for the Sentech dude with the Notebook and signal tester to come and see what we can do before I make any permanent changes.

Sentech...please help, I cannot keep the ladder in the lounge forever, OK.

I do hope that it really is the "Sentech guy". My "Sentech guy" turned out to be one of the antenna resellers...

I can only hold out hope that IPWireless or Axcera (the actual makers of the modem: http://axity3g.axcera.com) give an update that allows frequency locking...

ProAsm, any news on the updated software yet ?

Scarface, why not use MySignal v4.1 then you dont need the ladder as you can reset the modem from the comfort of your chair [;)]
