Again criminals having "rights" above and beyond the normal citizen!

Interesting! What if the toy gun was not a "toy", What was the other "robbers" holding! What about the intend to ROB or Hijack? Seems to me again a case of having to wait till you are shot dead before you may shoot back!

i dont blame the dude for shooting them, not with all the violent crime we hear about. Sure he should have tried a warning shot - maybe he did - we dont know, but if i was in a position like that i would not sit and analyse the dudes weapon.

I would have done the same and i hope they get off.

yay for dead criminals!

Hope the father and son get off. Stories of criminals being killed makes my heart feel all warm and fuzzy.

lots of things "apparently" happened in that short article

Just listened to the criminologist on this one, he feels the guys were in their rights to defend themselves, said they should sue the police for false arrest. Their lives were threatened, they defended themselves within the law.

All that aside though, if some aashole shoves a pointed object in my side that looks like a gun, he must expect me to retaliate, I am not going to ask for a signed form stating his intentions so I can prove to the police that he was going to kill me and I acted in self defence.

What has happened to our law, why do they always prosecute the victim? Its so true what rape victims say, yes they got raped by some bastard, but then when they report it they get raped by the justice system all over again.

Fight crime....shoot back!!!!!!!!!!!

It's just the journalist being careful about the facts before it goes to court. I think maybe whoever wrote it could have thumbed through his thesaurus before publishing.

When someone is threatening or apparently threatening your life you do not even consider firing a warning shot. If the circumstances are as described they were correct to draw their weapons and should have been intending to shoot to kill.

If you're armed, in an argument with someone and that person starts to take out a gun you absolutely should shoot them as quickly as possible.

Our law fails to exercise common sense when it comes to self-defense. We have gone the way of the UK, punishing people for protecting themselves. The right to life, as in not allowing the state sanctioned or pre-meditated murder or killing someone without proper cause, is all very well, but if someone is in your home or threatening your life in the street then you should take them down. If they happen to die that is just tough.

the police have to charge you

they will get off

what jury in their right mind would convict these 2 guys

self defence
they didnt know the gun was fake

Wiil be interesting to follow this case. MAny cases in the past had the same result, case opened for murder, but we never learned the outcome. Will be interesting to see the outcome and in particular the statistics of the effect of race if any!

There was a few cases where the victims shot and killed the robbers and they were not arrested!

yes i know... like the word "Alleged" and all the derivitives of it.

But i find it funny though... like say there is a guy with a bullet hole in his head and lying on the floor dead. and the article will read "was allegedly shot in the head"

um.... some facts are just facts... but yes shame poor Journo's have to deal with all that crap.

The police need to at least go through the motions of charging and 7 shots does seem a bit excessive. Bullets are expensive so waste not want not.

Unless its a bright pink water pistol been pointed in my direction of course I'm going feel my life is in danger.

i can tell you for sure that if you shoot and kill someone they will charge you for murder

process they have to go through

7 shots is not bad between 2 guns

i would just shoot till the bastid was deader than dead :)

just shoot him a couple times in his legs
Sorry but not a chance - go for the largest surface area - torso. With the adrenaline pumping anyone would have a far better chance of hitting it. Besides - with .45 cal Federal Hydra-Shok a torso shot will probably do the trick.

Not a chance, THEN you will be in poo, the bastard will say he was just walking past and you shot him, then he will sue you for loss of earnings etc. If you have a gun and yank it out you had better make sure you use it correctly, if you shoot then shoot the bugger dead so he cant say I was just walking past...
