All,

I have recently moved from my old Netgear DGN2000 to the newer TP-Link Archer D7 modem/router. The Wifi speeds between my devices is awesome, but my internet speed has dropped from about 400kb/s to around 80kb/s.

In the status page of the router is says it is connected at around 4-5 Mbps (which is in line with my 4mb account with MWEB) but on internet connection I only get around 1 Mbps (even on speedtest.net). What is interesting is that my upload speed is also around 1 Mbps (same as with the Netgear, so it looks like only the download speed is affected after moving modem/routers).

Anyone has experienced this issue that might be able to assist?

Ok - I have solved my issue - and am just posting a reply so that somebody looking at this post in a couple of months down the line make a decision based on the wrong information.

Turned out to be nothing to do with the TP-Link Archer D7, it was the telkom connection socket in my house. I have always used a specific port in the socket, and my Netgear was relatively happy living on that, while the TP-Link really struggled.

After trying every setting on the router, I swiched the cable to the other port on the Telkom socket, and full speed!!! There must obviously be something slightly wrong with the first port while the second is a lot more stable.

So in summary - the TP-Link turned out to be absolutely awesome with a felt in crease in WiFi Speed as well as reach around the house. In my experience this is a very good relatively inexpensive solution that works great.

Bought if from PC International - R1,481. Which is a lot cheaper than Incredible Connection, which I think is selling this at R2,599.

How did you do the setup?

I bought one yesterday - was using a Netgear DGN2200 before. Telkom is my ISP.

It could not detect my connection settings, so I did the setup manually. I cannot get the WAN Connection to work? Could you maybe post your settings?

Yip, got that. Those are what I used. Still cannot connect though - neither auto-detect nor manual setup works. Thought maybe there was something specific needed other than the generic settings (the D7 seems to have more detailed settings than the Netgear).

Wonder if it is a dud unit. Perhaps need to swop out.

I got this router yesterday and couldn't get it working. I worked with my ISP for 3 hours yesterday to try get it working.
It isn't as simple as just putting in the username and password it seems.

Did you eventually get it fixed? My router seems to be connecting to the ISP (they can see I'm connected), but I can't access the internet from any of my devices when connecting to the router, either via wifi or wired.

my wifi is slow. my tablet only connect at 115mbps. lg g3 only 85mbps.

internet itself is awesome. 1167kbps.

could not yet find a solution. maybe its faulty.
