TP Link TL-WDR4300 and 3Tb HDD

I just recently bought a 3Tb external HDD, and wanted to hook it up to my TP-Link TL-WDR4300 router. I notice the router does not pick up the drive.

A little googling and I seem articles indicating router has no support for drives greater then 2Tb, but nothing concrete stating this.

Anybody know if the TP Link TL-WDR4300 will support connecting a 3Tb external drive or not?

If you connect your drive and it does not work, I think you answered your own question.

I believe openWRT, and Gargoyle supports GPT. DD-WRT might also. Just remember to format your drive with EXT3/4 for best performance

Well i had my 1.5Tb also hooked up, I thought maybe it was a case of the router not allowing two drives to be connected at once. Or a USB 3 thing. Could have done more trial and error testing, but it was late at night.

A question on formatting it EXT3/4 - i believe windows XP cannot read these drives - would this be an issue for XP machines given the router is creating the storage share?

This is the feedback we received from TP-LINK support.... Looks like the biggest drive it can support is 2tb.

TL-WDR4300 cannot detect the 3TB HDD, because it cannot fully support GPT partition type.
You can suggest user try MBR partition type with the latest FW of TL-WDR4300, theoretically it can be detected, but only 2TB can be used.

Here are some tips of TP-LINK USB routers:
1. the disk format supported are FAT/FAT32/NTFS, currently ext3/Linux are not supported.
2. the USB ports do not support HDDs with hardware encryption.
3. it supports only MBR partition, RDs are working on GPT, but not solved yet. It supports up to 8 partitions, but limited by MBR on each HDD, it cannot detect more than 2TB.
