Hi all,

First post, I hope will get some assistance.

I bought a TP-Link TL WR 1043 ND from DBG and being getting wireless drops and internet not going through on Wifi, while My old Netgear modem works 100%. I sent it back and the support hard reset it, it already have the latest firmware and said no manufacturer fault.

I googled around and found it to be a common problem (On Newegg user review and other forums) with TP-Link modems that it drops wireless and blocks internet access on wireless connections. I wonder if any members here have experienced similar scenario and managed to sort it out?

Thanks

If the hardware version is newer than 1.4 then you're basically SOL with dd-wrt. OpenWrt officially support *past* 1.8 and I don't know diddly about where Tomato is at. And there there may also be Gargoyle to consider. Note too that ALL non-factory firmware mods are now verboten by Uniterm since pretty much 1.4 hardware.

I'm starting to think this is a common problem with TP-Link routers and not just the 1043

what configuration have you got between the modem and the router, i.e. DHCP settings etc.?

OMB, I don't kwow so much; I submit that I have a site with 2x 1043ND: the (currently) stock one connecting to iBurst and running DHCP for the network and the other one with OpenWrt elsewhere on the property embiggening the wireless footprint. The stock one has never really given any drama at all, and the other one is now better since moving from dd-wrt to OpenWrt.

I'm also looking for a decent router and was thinking of getting the 1043ND but the wireless issues are a deal breaker for me.

Going to hijack this thread a bit :p. Is this Asus router a good alternative? http://www.biosonline.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=55867 Seems to have the same specs as the TP Link but the antennae is internal.
...the antennas are internal. Also, no OpenWrt or dd-wrt for it, which is a bummer; that multi-SSID could be useful though.

I've got an N750, have got the same problem it's also been back to Uniterm, it appears to be some form of configuration issue but what exactly is proving to be the diffficulty in tracking down.

I had a similar problems if you saw my posts in the reverse auction thread.

I did some googling and fidling this weekend, and my connection has been solid for 1 full day and 17 hours at present. Before i would have to reboot the router at the least once a day.

Try the following:
1) ADSL modem should be in full bridge only mode
2) On the Router go to WAN Settings, put the WAN connection mode on connect automatically (or put the max idle time to 0)

See if that helps.

That helped me.

yep, I've got it on my list to do, just haven't got around to doing it yet :p

I intend to follow this set up http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=814956, sounds like what you've done?

I found this http://joeyiodice.com/converting-tp-link-tl-wr1043nd-to-dd-wrt it contains the latest DDWRT Firmware (05 February 2013 at my time of DL) Seems to fix the wireless issue as with stock firmware, the Wifi light is constantly blinking. Now it only blinks when data is being transmitted and looks good so far. Hope this can help others.
Yep, that's the step back to old(er) German version and then forward to dd-wrt ..or OpenWrt (and I suspect) any other one you care to try.. that I've been using. And, even with this method we've been having fun times with dd-wrt dropping wireless.

2 days now, no dropping wifi, no internet drop through wifi, no restarts with the latest DDWRT firmware. Got 1 x desktop, 1 x PS3 connected via Lan and 3 ipads, 1 desktop, 2 laptops & 4 cell phones connected to wifi fully pumping. DDWRT Ftw :D Tp-Link got impressive hardware for the price it sells for :)
