Hi guys,

My ADSL is giving me some problems. It works well for several hours and then bombs, I get the little yellow triangle over the internet connection icon and have to restart the router to fix it.

The router is a TP-LINK TD-W8970 and it has some default "diagnostic" software which does step by step tests and always fails at the "Ping default gateway" step (before restarting, as soon as the issue starts).

I'm with WA and haven't tested accounts from other ISPs.

I updated the router's firmware a month back to what was at that time the latest official firmware available.

Any ideas why? Know of any software that could help me trace this issue? Anyone with a similar router that can give advice?

Here's a dump from the diagnostic test:

Test Internet Browsing
Test xDSL Synchronization Pass
ATM OAM Segment Ping Pass
ATM OAM end to end Ping Pass
Test PPP Server connection Pass
Test authentication with ISP Pass
Test assigned IP address Pass
Ping default gateway Fail
Ping primary Domain Name Server Fail
Test DNS Root Fail
Network Connection Status Inspect(NCSI) Fail
Diagnostics Complete

A pretty genuine and valid question was asked, yet no one was prepared to answer? Not a single ISP rep stepped up to the plate ?

Just exactly why can't we ping the default gateway anymore??

The OP might have given up and may not come back to answer us. So maybe you could offer for others' benefit why that would cause the router to require a periodic reset?

OP hardly gives any info, so I cant really say.
