Guys,

I did a trace root from my home to Google/Facebook/Webafrica and every time on the second hop I get a timed out, does that mean there is a package loss between my house and the exchange?

How do I report it to Telkom as they do not seem to understand data loss, they keep asking is there a line fault...or is it a line fault?

Some help or advice where to start fault finding would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Fay

Perhaps if you displayed the results of the tracert, someone here will be able to give you some form of diagnosis.

Hope this helps, could get the picture in ^_^

If I do three speed test I get 3 completely different results, from a local ping of 72-250 and line speeds of 1.9-3.5, I have a 4 meg unshaped account with WA.

Best hunch would be that the router/firewall/first point of contact outside your network does not allow a response to ICMP packets, they do this on occasion to stop certain attacks.
If it's doing the same thing to all sites I'd deffinitely go with that, I wouldn't read too much into it.

There is no problem, no need to log a fault with telkom. l1qu1d provided you with a good explanation.

Guys, much appreciated, it has never happened before so I was unsure why suddenly now. Wish I need more about networks and IT sometimes.

Many thanks gain guys.

Should I get another router or something? I have Billion 7300.
