Hi all

Anyone know of any track days that are going to be held next year in Gauteng?
I wanna start doing some racing, get me out of the house haha.

dude...lots! You have to be MUCH MORE spacific! Numerous car clubs have track days at least 5 times a year, and there are "open days" at most clubs...call 'em and find out!

By clubs do you mean specific car clubs like the BMW club etc? I'm looking for normal cars rather than race cars.

whats a normal car?

club track days are a combination of track cars and daily drivers usually. what do you drive?

Normal car = your daily driver. Most people use a 2nd car though (even if its not a track car).

Usually they break up the field into different classes based on some of the following:

Engine size
Modifications (normal vs track cars)
Past experience on the track

Some of the more "busy" clubs are: BMW, Subaru, Opel, VW, Ford ST but there are others too. Alternatively contact Kyalami or your closest circuit to see if you can get a copy of their schedule for the year.

thanks Optimus, I was trying to be funny!

Anyway, my problem with track days is I cannot get myself to go on the track with my paid-off car if I am unable to afford repairs or a total write-off. I know this is off-topic but is something worth thinking about before having your car smashed into by another driver.

Hoping that they're having an afternoon run down here at Killarney on 19 December.

Some of the BMW okes are going on the morning run, I'm missing out due to work.

dude you can go with any car on OPEN DAYS...however tracks allow you to hire the track for some time...or just join the club of your marquee...if you have Opel, join Opel club for instance.

Track days are NOT for hardcore racers, its more of a day for novices or ordinary people wanting to thrash their cars around tracks, this is SERIOUS fun and very addictive...

However, don't inform your insurance, and sign an indemnity form before you go onto the track...also take off your plates if you have a serious monster with waranty as I know BMW have scouts at tracks as happened to one member when he thrashed his 335i around the track at Zwartkops...they approached him and asked all kinds of questions, they were from BMW:eek:The did not say in many words that they are there to see who trashes the cars...but luckily for him he had no plates and refused to give his name or i.d...and marshals also scribbled out his names before BMW idiots could approach them...lol, reminds me of the time BMW warned M5 owners against racing the WRX STi on tracks, lol, fun times

sounds interesting. too bad my N95 takes ages to find satellites. But you also get a transponder at the track if that fails.

I'm sure one can get insurance for track days. Won't be cheap though.

I thought insurance stopped covering claims that happened to occur just outside a tracks gates?

which gates? sounds ridikooloos:erm:

YEP! If you say, oh someone reversed into my car at Zwartkops while it was parked...alert signs and red lights and swat teams will start wagging their finger at the opperator saying NO NO NO NO...he was racing!

if its a fender bender, just report it happened elsewhere. if it's a write-off thats another story.

Yes, no one is interested.:(

Thats why I need a "cheeper" second car to "play" with on the track as I cant afford to lose my daily driver

thx for confirming. the problem is that your cheap track car might become more expensive than your daily driver once the bug bites :D
