Hi all I need advise on the below . I receive a car allowance . Is this even legal? Furthermore I don't use the same car all the time.

In an effort to better manage our service to customers and at the same time reduce our costs,
we are implementing mandatory car tracking devices for all employees who receive a car allowance.

Seems more like they want to track if you are actually doing your work?

Like it's not just a perk but you actually drive around to see clients.

I would be fine with it as long as it can be switched off after working hours.
That's a extra security feature. Who cares if the work see what you do after hours. It non of their business, but they can't say anything.

Might save you a few rands on insurance.

If they paying for the installation and subscription then why not? You basically getting reduced insurance for nothing.

As far as being tracked, why would it be such a big fuss? I highly doubt your employer sits at his computer on the weekend watching what all his staff get up to. Even if they do, honestly why do you care if they know you gone to pick n pay.

To answer your question though, it depends on what is in your contract and the terms of the vehicle allowance. Unless there are conditions whereby the benefit can be withdrawn then they can't just take it away. If the car is in your name, legally no, they cannot insist on the tracking device. The next move would be to decide whether it's worth arguing the case.

if you're sleeping with the bosses wife this might be a problem
