Like Werries said it's about pref. I like fire for one reason only, I kill mobs my lvl in 3 casts. If I crit 2. And it's a feast in an instance. Some guys play Ice for the CC abilities and PvP.

Fire in PvP can be briliant also. I think a Fire mage is the only char that can hit a Twink Warrior (lvl 29) for 400 - 500 damage on a crit Pyro and then burns off about another 60 for a few seconds.

Ice is more for survival. Even a Fire spec mage has Frost Nova and Arcane explosion. The problem is that it chows Mana like no other if your not spec'd for it ;)

Anyway. Remember you can respec, play around a bit and find the one you like best. I did Gnomer the other day and was by far the top DPS guy there.

I think the non elite gnomes in there was great help as I used Arcane explosion. Like mentioned before, it can be done as fire spec, the mana just doesn't last well. I have 2 mages. One lvl 34 on Burning blade (Ally) and a lvl 13 or so on TH (Horde)

TBH I'm sad I didn't start with a caster, they so much fun :D
 
Personally i did a mix

Fire from 1-45, when the fireballs did 50 less dmg than pyroblasts, i thought wats the point of pyro then? (sure the ignite from pyro can help)

so i specced aoe frost, found a pally friend, and aoe grinded Feralas + wpl till 55 where i respecced deep frost (pally quit wow), went from deep frost from 55-70

now with aprox 870 spelldmg, im deep arc/frost (40/0/21)

So he didnt choose a gnome but rather it chose him :D:D

Before you got negative honor for killing quest npc's this used to be big sport. If low level horde wanted to partake they just flagged themselfs for pvp, and joined in the fun. Else they could just enjoy the fight or go to another area to level.

Sadly those massive town invasions have ended :(

Who still remember the endless fights between SouthShore and TaurenMill ? Oh those were the days :D

Ah man those TM vs SS days were awesome, get the fight started with 30s, carry on till the big guns arrive and annihilate the opposition :p

i miss those days :( Silithus pvp is a joke tho
