Trading in a car

Put it on the market but don't trade-in unless you want a similar model. Sounds cheap maybe you can find a buyer. Is your settlement really 300k yowzer whats the total financing amount on 30 months? Two and a half years might just breeze past and you'll have a kief ride and good reason to care for it. Also remember you can refinance if need be.
 
Unless you want to shaft yourself I suggest you keep the car. Sure it is costing you a lot of money but not nearly as much as it will cost you to trade it in and buy something cheaper.

I know it is not going to help you, but this is exactly why I bought my last car used for R100k which is less than half of what it retailed for 8 years ago. I only paid 4 of my 60 month repayments before I settled the account. Next I plan to drive it for a decade :cool:

My dad's old XJ 6 - he bought her new in 1970 ( 2.8 manual) and sold it to a friend in 1973 when he bought a 4.2....move on down the road, and the guy who bought her is a hoarder, and in 1994, he drove her into the garage and left her there. Fast Forward to June this year, and my brother and I decided to approach him and ask him if we could have it...and he said yes!

We then went up to Phalaborwa from Cape Town, hired a trailer in Pretoria, and trailed her back here at the end of June.

Standing for 24 years is NOT good for a car, but we are slowly working through everything - the fuel tanks were rusted and choked up with some frightening stuff, as were the hydraulics - you must see what 24 year old brake fluid looks like!!

I have been stripping parts, cleaning and re-painting, so far, carbs have been rebuilt and polished, radiator rebuilt, tanks rebuilt, and we are hoping to actually start her in December some time. Once she's running, we can then concentrate on new paint job and sorting out the upholstery - a loooong process! ;)
