Hi,

Does anyone know where I can get this or something similar from a local store?

Or I can build the PC myself, just need the multi-monitors with stand and mount unit.

How would you connect 8 screens to a PC? Should I look for a motherboard with 4 PCI-E slots then add 4 graphic cards with 2 outputs each?

Any help appreciated,
Thanks.

I don't know where you can get such a stand. Yes you normally would need 4 graphics cards, and a motherboard with 4 slots as you say. Although with the 5870 eyefinity edition you can have 4 or 6 monitors connected to one card. I suppose manufacturers will start making such stands for eyefinity setups, I know samsung promised one for 6 displays (3x2) array. Check this pic!

Oh, I see they use the Quadro Cards - ouch, eina, bliksem. These cards each connect 2 displays but do shop around. Tad pricey. The cards are available in PCI-E.

EDIT: I see you can also run just with PCI (and not PCI-E) cards, thats why you need 5 more PCI slots. Thats cheaper but trying to source those cards may not be worth the effort.

Thanks, I'll skip the Quadro! The applications aren't that resource intensive, it even works on my onboard laptop display! What's the cheapest reliable PCI-E gpu card that supports 2 ouputs? I can manage 4 screens without a mount, so might just go for 4 for the time being. So this will actually be quite a basic setup, 2gpu's with 2outputs each and 4screens.

You could buy a HD5450 for ±R750, has 4 outputs and will support 3 screens like all ATI 5000 series cards. Will do some scratching around to see if you can xfire them to get 6 screens....

No the HDMI and DVI are not independent outputs, so you only get 2 screens AFAIK.

Sorry, card only has 3 outputs (double checked now) and can run 3 screens. It has one DVI, HDMI and one D-SUB. Will support eyefinity although only on some models.

Will this card work fine with dual display? Link

ATI Eyefinity technology is supported by graphics cards in the ATI Radeon HD 5400 series and higher.

You have to verify the specs of the individual card you are interested to see how many (mini)DisplayPort outputs/monitors it supports, not physical ports on the card. Some HD 5870s (Eyefinity 6) supports 6 displays for example. The card can be had locally for about R6k which is not bad considering you are driving 6 displays off it.

As for the screen stands do a search around this forum as I'm pretty sure the topic has been touched on before.

Proof of a single card that can handle 6 screens all on its own. There are several similar cards out there.

sigh @ ponders ninja edits

Hi Mass09

I trade full time and never used more than 2 screens at the time. Not sure why do you need 8. Even 4 are more than enough.

Anyway as pointed by Archer there are few cards that can support 6 screens out there. But be aware they will need 600W power supply, you will not be able to connect it on "regular" 350W.

Thanks Icko,

I also trade full time, currently on a dual monitor system. I know it's not required to have 8 screens but one or two more wouldn't hurt. Keeping my eye on a lot of things. I would like one screen for Easy Trader from OST and another one or two for Metatrader and one for news and browsing...

You are welcome mass09

Putting 4 screens is not that big problem like putting 8 on one PC. And it will be much cheaper. Need 2 GCs and MB with two PCI-E slots.
