My license expired last week, which I completely missed. Today I got stopped at a roadblock and was issued a fine. There are two charges listed. Charge 1 is for driving without a license and is R1000. The second charge is given as "Charge 3 (Alternative)", and is for not having a license in the vehicle. This is for R500. So what exactly do I pay? What is the point of listing the alternative charge if the license has obviously expired? Do I just pay the R1000?
