Traffic fine - Eastern Cape - Advice needed

Yep thats the modus operandi, they stay in specific locations not because is a accident zone but because of slow traffic , then they throw you the big amount and if you are open, you can get away with Coke and chips money :-) . I had similar incident in Mpumalanga and the car on front of me with MP no plate was let go, my GP looked more lucrative ... (or the other driver is local knowing the scam). We were both overtaking a truck when the line was broken , then just before we pulled to left ,apeared arrows suggesting that the solid line follows and there were the traffics.. waving at us, Then I tried to argue that I was already overtaking when the arrows appear with no success,
I am on the market for good DashCam to have proof ,But kind of Garmin one that records also your speed...
By the way , where one can find the amount of the traffic fines for different offences , Are the fines same across different provancess or they differ??

This one is for the Western Cape:

www.westerncape.gov.za/assets/depar...ments/traffic_law_offence_code_2014_small.pdf (PDF)

The amount must abide to the Traffic Law Enforcement Offence Code Book as per the revision on the date of the contravention, each province has its own approved fine amount per contravention. In the Western Cape this fine will be R1500.
Thanks for this. Presumably significantly higher in the Eastern Cape then? When I asked why so much the officer shrugged and said this is the amount stipulated and which he had no control over (the latter being fair enough I suppose).

What is the "barrier line"?

EDIT: Never mind - my summons says I crossed a "Double barrier line" so I know what it is. :o Strange how my fine was so much less than yours though.

Sounds pretty similar to the situation I was in. We were pulled over going up a hill. I assume the offence occurred where, being on a hill, they could have a good view of it.

:-) I "did wrongfully 'operate a blue Honda on a public road whilst ? to comply with a road traffic mark to wit a barrier line' " Probably double as well.

Thanks, It is nice to know, Hope someone will come with links of the rest...
I thought that when AARTO was launched it will be one database, Its more like US states- different jurisdictions different laws :-(
It seems like it. Checked on AARTO and my transgression hasn't been recorded as yet. Would have thought that provinces would input into the central database but this doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe they will do so when a warrant goes out for my arrest! (Joking, am intending to pay)

Blue Honda… ok, that explains the extra R1500… :p

Checking the penalties, some are quite confusing:
Whats the difference in the offence so you have such a different amount of penalty ?

84135 NRTR 2000 Reg 308A(1)(a) r/w sec 89 Holding a cellular or mobile telephone in one or both hands or part of the body whilst driving a vehicle. C R1000

84143 NRTR 2000 Reg 308A(1)(b) r/w sec 89 Using cellular or mobile telephone not fixed in vehicle. C R300

??

Very confusing... Its being fined what I consider quite an excessive amount that, in part, prompted me to post on the forum.

Was told by one colleague that crossing a barrier line is right up there with jumping a traffic light. Hmm...

Not sure if any of you who contributed to the thread will pick up on this but thought I would give a brief reportback.
After much procrastination I managed to get hold of the public prosecutor in Mount Ayliff on the phone. Wasn't easy. When he heard the fine was in relation to a barrier line crossing he, without any prompting from me, reduced it to a R1000 - of course significantly less than the initial R2500 fined. Needless to say I am delighted :-) and the amount has been paid. Thanks for your input. Cheers.

Well done.

Here's my story - I got the cheque cut, mailed it off… and it was returned "Please use this address…" so I sent it again to the revised address and it got returned again yesterday " Please use this address…" so off it's going yet again…

Yikes, sorry man. Hugely frustrating. I've got doubts about my method of payment (electronic transfer into the Municipal bank account) with faxes etc to confirm - not sure if this is procedurally correct but is what I was told to do. Making sure I hang on to all the documentaion though...

Need to speak to a public prosecutor in East London. I got R800 for 81 in a 60 zone.
