Hey y'all,

I was just wondering, I got a fine tonight. I'm in the wrong and intend to pay it but...
The officer neglected to put my name and address correctly. Car details and id number are correct, but since the afore mentioned isn't. Is it still valid? (Probably is, just curious, since with most legal letters the details need to be correct).

As you intend to pay it, what difference does it make?

Was just curious. have to pay it one way or the other, rather the discount than the full price.

If you find another driver who shares your ID number + vehicle reg + committed the same offence at the same location on the time & date, then you may have a case.

And if you do find him, slap him silly for stealing your identity. And then blame him for your browser history.

I have a fine too, R400 (which is a bit tough for me at the moment, moving into flat etc.)

How does the discount work?

Think it you pay only 50% if you pay the fine within 21 days of receiving it. After that there is no more discount and you will have to pay the full amount.

Does this apply to paying online as well?

Intriuging, I also got a fine recently with incorrect details (even though I gave the officer every single bit of info, letter for letter)

But, its a monumentally ridiculous figure, R1500 for doing a U-Turn at a robot with a no U-Turn sign... I was in the wrong, not denying that.. but R1500 for something like that just seems wrong. I'm battling to find a published list of fines and their values in the eThekwini area so I can verify that the fine amount is correct, does anyone know where I can find such a thing because AARTO doesn't apply in Durban yet from what I can tell.
