I was away for a couple of weeks and left my wife's car with one of her friends. My wife told them they can use it since they didn't have a car at the time.

I see they've got two fines in the period. One for driving without a seatbelt and one driving over the speed limit (74 in a 60kph zone).

Can I just go to the traffic department and explain to them? I see on the back of the speeding fine I can add the details of the person who was driving.

Its only R400 bucks in total, but my wife feels a bit used...especially since they didn't mention it. So my idea is to have the traffic dept / City of CT send the fines to them!

Thanks

Usually: there is a process to follow to designate the responsible driver at the time, requiring their contact details etc. at which point they attempt to retrieve the owed amount from them

why did they send a fine to you for no seatbelt? surely they were pulled over and given a written fine

and also i say make them pay

Sorry, the seat belt one I found it in the car last week. I thought it was my wife who received it until she told me a few minutes ago.

The speeding camera one I received in the mail now.

Also, out of interest (pardon my ignorance), but by law they're going to be held accountable for the seat belt one, correct?

I doubt they'll dispute either as they know they had use of the car, but you never know :)

Yeah, ID number, the works.

Just thought since our license plate number is also on it

might just make it an issue when trying renew license then i suppose, best bet get money from them for both and pay yourself.

No need to worry about the seat-belt one. But complete the driver details on the speed one and send it back to the traffic department that issued it. Fine will be re-directed.
