Traffic Report on 702

All,

I often listen to 702 when I am driving back home. But when they have their traffic report, the reporter always mentioned that N3 North Bound have accident or traffic jam from Modderfontien to Bedfordview. But when I get there it is South Bound.

It doesnt happened once, he reports it that way all the time.

Isn't north bound is towards the North? Or my English is that bad...

every single day, a truck breaks down on the uphill section just after van buuren,
literally EVERY DAY, and as its the entrance to most of the city, it slows traffic always.

simple, get off at Concorde RD or find another way, its always congested.

as for traffic that is more accurate, you can follow pigspotter (@randpigspotter), who SMS you for free telling you about traffic incidents,

or just get waze, it will show you traffic incidents along your way.

I travel that route quite regularly,
I am sure they are not getting wrong. E.g. Yesterday he quite clearly mentioned there was traffic on the N3 southbound with the queue going all the way to buccleuch.

In your example, if there is a traffic jam on the north side, the queue will go from Modderfontein to Bedfordview.

Even if a truck has not broken down, those fckers always decides to drive next to each other on that uphill. I dont know if the one thinks he will be able to overtake all the other trucks but then you end up with all lanes filled up with trucks. Just drive behind each other in one lane so the cars can use the other right hand lanes.

Yeah, I agree, its insane sometimes, when you climb on n3 at van buuren, and there are 4 trucks driving next to one another,
and you have to slow down to avoid hitting them chugging up the hill. and then one breaks down, as is always the case.

Ockie, remember that Milk Tanker? the one that blocked all 6 lanes in both directions?
that s what I call traffic... people were selling cool-drinks in the traffic, had parked their cars, gone and brought a 6 pack of fanta and were hawking it.

I normally just used all kinds of back route from Louis Botha to M1 to back of Houghton.

Just curious, South bound is towards the south and North bound is towards the north, right?
I think sometimes, he is confused, so that makes me confused too.

same with me, took Jan smuts till louis botha and then linksfield,
and then club street, all the way till home, saw the traffic piling up on the N3 parking lot.

yeah, its not always the answer, but rat racing through smaller roads, sometimes helps.

They rely quite heavily on people messaging in and what not, but there are so many other ways to be accurate with a report there's not much of an excuse for being wrong here. Today, for example, there was a overturned truck on the N1 South bound before the New Road bridge, he reported it as a stationery truck on N1 North.
[MENTION=263843]iTR[/MENTION]afficgp are great on Twitter. The post pics of where exactly the issue is what lane etc so you're better informed. Traffic reports that tell you there's an issue, but not which lane is affected is rather pointless.

you dont need traffic reports - as soon as you jump in your car - open google maps put your destination in and see for yourself what the traffic is like....problem solved

We need a law, and we need it to be enforced regarding trucks, especially during peak hours. For the greater good of the nation.

Imagine if there was some kind of automated camera system on these highways that could monitor traffic across all the lanes and record the offenders and issue fines electronically. Oh wait...
