Ok so the cap is coming 8(

What I wanna do is this -

I gotta Gateway machine running Fedora core 3, Shorewall with Masq and I maintain it ftom my Win xp machine using Webmin or SSH.

Is there any easy to install app for the linux box that will monitor and graph my ppp0 IP usage and either integrate into webmin or publish it's own web pages so that I can keep track of how much I've d/loaded for the entire network?

Also is the cap 3Gb both ways or just down and what about local traffic?

Thanks.

SmoothWall has that builtin - I have my smoothie webadmin page constantly on the RED Interface traffic graphs which update & refresh every 5mins (I keep longing for the upload & download spikes to...well shoot & spike ;)).

Yeah so does IPCOP but have u tried runnibg other server software on them?

easier with a full distro 8)

network monitor is is very much like the windows connection properties infobox - right click your top panel -> add to panel

ifconfig, as you are probably well aware, will give you some dirty but quick figures.

you could also write your own little app, it looks easy to do, it could even be a timed bash script, to do this, from there on out you could export to a webmin friendly format.

I stopped making sense after 'network monitor'. I am rambling even here.

thats a great point. Ipcop/smoothwall doesnt even come with gcc or 'make' support. definitely no rpm/apt-get/emerge/yum.

The only way to copy files to one of these boxen is to scp it, there is no cifs, nfs, ftp or wget . So yeah, I agree with what fiber said.

You did sort of yes. :)

OK know about network monitor.

the prob is my linux box doesnt have a monitor or even keyboard. sits under my desk.

I need something EASY (I'm a bit lazy) :D and I need to be able to access the stats on my winxp machine. thats why I thought web based would be cool as webmin is already like that so at worst i woulld just use a different port number.

told u I was lazy!

thanx

fibaoptix, between bandwidthd, ntop and mrtg you can get some ISP grade graphing going. Haven't done a fully working setup yet, but it's one of the projects on my backburner...

Mmm, bandwidthd looks interesting, the others look ridiculously complicated to configure.

The only prob is I'll need MySQL and APACHE running too which seems like a bit of overkill to just to check on my usage occasionally.

Thanx

ntop is cool.
It has all the graphing, runs it's own webserver, and not only shows you total usage, but a breakdown per ip, of usage though any interface you feel like. So you can see how much msn or kazaa or ssh traffic is going through you linux router. Plus what IP's on the lan are using. Basically who is the bandwidth whore :p

It needs a couple libraries to run and requires a bit of work to setup, but it's great.

OK crash you sold me!

I'll battle through the install and cofig and give it a try.

Thanks everyone.

I know this outage was planned, they sent me a mail, but I did not know myadsl uses them. I saw no notice of the impending outage.
