A train coach, travelling north from Retreat to Cape Town, passed over the points just before Plumstead station. The points mechanism collapsed and the train drove into the gravel bed and got stuck as both bogeys left the rails

After a 20 min wait, the doors were opened and passengers were able to alight. The northern part of the service has been suspended since about 11.30

Metrorail said it would take an hour to clear, but by 15.30 the crane had not arrived. There are also high voltage cables overhead

Poor or non-existent maintenance

LOL

I have to visit my office friends this morning.

They were telling me a few weeks ago how metrorail was servicing the tracks while trains were operating over them, with the inevitable prediction that the trains would derail.
