It's been a long day and the brain is nackered - too nackered for deciphering Google results.

I'm replacing a pc in Durban running XP with a Win 7 box.

I used the File and transfer wizard on XP and saved the data to the server - hoping to access the data from the server folder and import it to the new pc.

Yes, Win 7 does not have File and Transfer wizard but Easy Transfer.

Am I correct that I should install Easy Transfer on the XP machine and use that to transfer the data to the server ?

Thanks in advance.

Easier way would be copy users folder--- besides app data to win 7 PC

Ie everything under Joe's folder ie desktop mydocs, ect to win 7 PC

Btw; thread title is wrong, you don't want to go anywhere near win 8/8.9999 with a bargepole

W8.1 With Start8 :P

Good luck OP, copy pasting is the easiest. I hope you informed your client that he has to reinstall apps from scratch?
Also inform him of the free Windows 10 upgrade that is upcoming, can't wait.

Not good - seems if you want to do the transfer both the old and new pcs must be online.

Remote client only has one network point so that's not possible.

Manual transfer must be the only way to go.
