My apologies if this is posted in the wrong section.

we are taking over exiting offices on the 1st of April and have need to transfer 2 phone lines and 1 fax line as well as install ADSL.

Telkom's site is not all that helpful in trying to ascertain what the costs are going to be and I do not feel like sitting for half an hour waiting for someone to advise me over the phone.

What charges will be levied for the transfer of the lines to our company, can one order Business ADSL without entering into a 24 month contract (ie sans modem) and is the self install option viable?

Really appreciate any assistance in this regard.

Not sure of the intricacies of transferring account - other than existing user account must be settled, else you have to pay their account.

The ADSL self install should be no problem if the exchange supports it and they have ports available. Most of my customers have had theirs provisioned within 2 weeks with this criteria in place.
Generally they opt for the ADSL on fax line, then fax will go on the phone/analogue socket and adsl on adsl socket.
You need modem/router and splitter/filter. Lightning protector also a good idea. Also ISP if you are not suckered into Telscum do-plots.
You need to get an order number when ordering (eg 37882-42) which you have to use to verify/activate once provisioned. Set up router and isp info. Up and running.

Went to the Telkom store at Boulders and was told they cannot tell me what the cost is going to be to transfer the 3 lines as they need to do a credit check on the company first. I mean, WTF? Do they charge different rates for transfer? Got a blank stare on that question and then the same reply as before..........How do these people get their jobs?

Thanks for the advice on the install. We will most DEFINITELY not be utilising Telkom as the SP and will hopefully be doing a self install to eradicate the need for them to even step foot on the premises ;-)

Oh yes, the credit check for the blank cheque terms of use.
Personally, I would go a top-up with roll-over of unused data. No contract, and some control of usage.
But it depends on your usage of course.
If your usage is not too high - maybe the Nashua all-in one offer elsewhere should be fine - except 12 month contract and unused data is lost. You do get a router and unshaped bandwidth though.

Does the exchange support ADSL and are there ports available?

That would be it

Given the amount of data that will be used monthly (Advertising and Marketing Company as well as Web-design and Hosting) we will be starting on a 10 gig account and do not want to enter any long term contracts.

Without promoting a company - I know nexus have variety in usage and you can still top-up once the cap is used. The top-up rolls over untill used up. 10GB/month @ R529/month.
I am sure there are scores like them.

The transfer costs should/may be on the telscum web-site. A guess would be close to a new installation cost.
