I got a Bold 9700 a few months ago, bought a few apps and have setup contacts, BBM and everything, as I planned on keeping the phone for 2 years.

However - i'm keen on a Torch now and was wondering I get it, would I lose my apps - fee or paid? As the Touch has a larger screen, would apps be compatible?

I'm guessing the PIN is a hard coded into the phone - so no transfer possible? I need to re-add all my BBM contacts?

I think the Backberry Desktop Software has a "switch phone wizard" when you connect a new phone, but I stand to be corrected.

This is the easiest thing to do. I also thought how on earth???

Here is the steps.

1. You connect your new phone. (Blackberry Desktop Manager will ask you if would like to add a new phone or would like to switch phones)
2. Choose Switch Phone. (Now BDM will tell you to connect your current (old) phone and ask you what you would like to switch)
3. Now choose what you would like to switch, ie, contacts, e-mail, BBM contacts and all settings. It can copy all your memory card info as well. I didn't do this though. I inserted my 8GB card in the Torch after everything was done.
4. Now you can connect your new phone and the copy process will start.
5. When its donen everything will work. Evern your BBM contacts will be on your new phone and you can start chatting with them even though your BBM PIN has changed.

That's it
