Good morning myBB.

I'm visiting home soon, and in my excitement to purchase a ticket, I unknowingly selected a 38 hr flight to Johannesburg through Dubai, I guess it was because of the dirt cheap prices. Anyways, do I need a Visa if I am just transiting(10 hrs)?

For those who use Emirates often, do you know if they provide transit hotels or I'll have to pay for one myself?

Thanks in advance

No, you don't.

If you want to leave the airport you do, but the visa can be acquired from their customs officers. You don't need to have one beforehand.

We regularly transit through Dubai when going to Europe with Emirates.

As far as I know they do not provide transit hotels, but lots of people are sleeping in the airport while waiting for their connecting flight.

Waiting/Sleeping at the airport for 38 hours is very difficult. If you some money get the visa and a hotel. I hear that the shopping in Dubai is awesome if you know how to bargain.

You do not need a visa... which airline are you flying? Often you can get free food at the airport you have a long stop over at. I learnt with Qatar airlines you can get a free meal if you show them your ticket at the food court :D

Think his total flight time is 38 hours (of which 10 are in Dubai's airport)

The Dubai Airport Hotel is helluva nice but it comes at quite a steep price $60USD/hour. Alternatively do what all the other people do and just find a nice place to take a nap on the ground, don't blame anyone if you oversleep and miss your flight.
