I just got an sms form 0744940091 that reads as follows:

Transunion Credit Bureau (previously ITC): An agent will contact you regarding your FREE credit report - www.mytransunion.co.za

This is the first I've heard about ITC being done away with?
Is it a scam? I've checked the website out, it looks legit...but something feels odd.

Maybe I'm just paranoid.

Apparently under the new credit act, you get one free credit check per year. Transunion is one of the companies who offer this service.

it's legit. It's worthwhile to access your free credit report. I've subscribed to one of the membership options, so now I can get a credit report whenever I need it... helps me with my ultimate goal of being debt free.

ITC changed into TransUnion ages ago.

And yip: One free credit check per year.

They have just changed their name.

Its all above board.

I checked mine. The MTN account I closed in 2009 has never been closed by MTN so it still shows as active on my credit report. It shows a monthly expense of 0 tho, so I don't think it has any impact on my credit rating.

Other than that the only black mark on my record are those m**** f***** useless pieces of s*** for brains idiots at Neotel.
They only started submitting reports on my account AFTER it was closed and after 3 months of disputes with them they listed me as "Handed over"
Now despite me demanding over and over that they take this to arbitration or stop the whole thing they do nothing.
/rant over

Everything else on my report is exemplary, not even been reported for a single late payment in the last 5 years, so I dont think those idiots have too much of an impact.

You should be able to open a dispute with regards to that: In which case, until the dispute has been resolved, your credit check should not show any 'black marks'. It will show that something is under dispute.

Not sure with whom you open the dispute, but pretty sure there will be some info on it on Trans Union

Great, my paranoia is at full strength then. No reason to panic :)
