I am traveling abroad in December and need a reference for a company where I can buy travel insurance.

Normaly, we either buy the airtickets via credit card, which includes travel insurance, or if we book through a travel agent, they would sell insurance as part of the package.

Any references ?

Thanks

I have noticed that whether I get the insurance from the travel agent or the credit card company, it still seems to go via TIC(Travel Insurance Company). I am sure you can go direct to them. not sure if you would get a better deal direct or via a travel agent!!

I got quotes from TIC (they were first on my mind as well) and its quite expensive ... approx R1700 for 2 people for 15 days.

thats y I always buy tickets with the credit card ;D

Is there a reason u don't want to use your credit card??
Also, maybe check with TIC if they can remove the medical part as I am sure your medical aid will cover that ... could bring the cost down.
But that price does not seem that bad for 2 people for 15 days ... its a little over R50 a day per person .... u will spend more than that on a can of coke in the EU :)

Already bought the tickets and paid cash for them, so it is not an option anymore.

In that case, and lucky for me, I am not going to Europe.

Travel for 21 days for 2 of us with TIC - R1960.00 - Bought it through flight centre.
So about R50 a day seems average

If you take into account the fact that the duration of my travel is 15 days, then the cost is the same.

<R2000 for peace of mind is worth it.

I'm going to thailand, so for all I know I could be the victim of a tsunami or angry bangkok residents :D
I'm sure hospital costs would work out to much more.

If you with discovery, then the medical portion should be covered (well it was like that when I used to be with them)

R50 a day seems worth it, with your mind at ease your trip will be way more fun

R50 a day is well worth it!
I learn t the hard way, went overseas, was a rushed trip, paid for my ticket cash and forgot completely about the travel insurance (no excuse - i know! Just one of those things that slipped my mind!)
Got mugged on my first night, they took my brand new blackberry, on top of that i had to come home early (for various reasons that would have been covered by the insurance) and ended up having to pay in to change my tickets, etc.
Ended up being a very expensive trip!

Urge everyone to pay for the travel insurance and enjoy your holiday with peace of mind!
