Good article, it does make you wonder how Mbeki thinks he can stop crime in a country when he can not stop crime in his own cabinet.

Gibson turned to President Thabo Mbeki and said that he found it surprising that the President had not said anything about “crime in Parliament” and had failed to act as leader of the ANC.

“Surely the ANC considers that those among us who have stolen money from the people are not fit to be parliamentarians?” Gibson said, reminding the National Assembly that Parliament was still deliberating on what to do about the guilty MPs. “While people in high positions in public life get away with it, corruption will not be stopped. When this Parliament demonstrates that it sets high standards, when the political parties and especially the ANC show that they will not tolerate corrupt representatives, then the people of SA will believe that we are serious.”

Would love to see how Thabo is going to weasel his way out of this one today, because he will, loyalty to the party means more to him than loyalty to the people.

Gibson sums up my beliefs on crime and corruption very well.

I detest Douglas Gibson and his little panama hat. Nothing grinds me more than when I find that I agree with something that Gibson has said. :D (Luckily it happens very seldom)

You really think Charlie's going anywhere? Riiiiight. Like anyone else of sufficient advancement in the heirarchy, he's untouchable.
 
Yup, these okies are way above the law that governs the average citizen in this country :( which gets back to the issue at the heart of most of our problems, one of accountability.
