Hi Guys,

First and foremost I apologise for I figure the forum has been bombarded with similar questions...however mine is slightly different...a friend and colleague of mine is flying over to the US arround June to Orlando, Florida to be exact, I've asked him to buy a Canon 7D Kit from one of the stores that side, my question will he have to produce some kind of documentation to customs if he carries it with a bag and does'nt bring it through with the packaging (He will be using it as well that side since he will be on holiday and he won't be travelling with his)? Has anyone got any experience/or went states side and bhought a camera? Will there be customs duties incurred? Can he claim for a tax rebate if since he'll be paying tax this side as well on arrival? are there any stores in and around Orlando you may know of...read a lot on other websites and I know of which ones to avoid....can I buy an international warranty? any help/suggestion will be highly appreciated...

Thanks!

There are no guarantees when it comes to customs here so he should have the invoice with him even if you ditch the packaging. He won't be able to claim the US sales tax back though on departure.

He might be able to avoid it in the first place if he orders from an online retailer and has it shipped to where he's staying. I say might because it depends on the retailer and what sales tax legislation Florida has in place. From what I've read here Amazon might be a good bet.

EDIT - Florida sales tax ranges from 6 to 7% so don't forget to add that to the price you see listed.

He should keep the Purchase Invoice just in case.
He may be able to get away with telling them that it is used, but if he bought it that side, then you will still be liable for Customs duty.

Remember though that the first R3000 is free.

Wrong time to go. The heat and humidity is crazy that time of year.

Nice, it was really meant as tongue in cheek, although the humidity is crazy.

However, you must have a blast. Was at Disney in mid-90's. I probably won't recognise it anymore.

....now I'm having doubts...I'm thinking to rather wait another month or two and rather buy the body here, will just import the lenses from that side... thanks once more for the pointers and suggestions :)
