Afternoon folks

Did any MyBB member use Travelstart to book international flights before? Read some reviews of them on Trustpilot and it does not seem so good. I have used them for domestic flights before.

Would you recommend them?

Pricing is good but support I believe is non existent.

With current travel issues I would pay extra and go via a travel agent who can assist you with missed flights delays rebookings etc…

Domestic flights I think would be fine.

I've been doing quite a bit of searching on international tickets recently, and what I found with Travelstart is the initial price that you see looks great, but then once you go deeper into the booking process, there are added fees. Be very careful about whether carry-on luggage and/or checked luggage is included. A lot of cheap airlines these days give you only one "personal item" for free - it has to fit under the seat in front of you and they specify dimensions. Then they charge for hand luggage for the overhead bin, as well as checked luggage. Read the Ts & Cs very carefully whenever you use a third-party site. In these Covid times where travel is still so uncertain, and any new variant can trigger a wave of new travel bans, I would advise to book directly with the airline for peace of mind. These third-party sites can add all sorts of extra Ts and Cs around change fees/cancellation. I tend to use them only for searching across a range of airlines, then I go direct to each airline's website to see what the inclusions/exclusions on each type of ticket are.

Buying direct from the airline will often mean you'd need to pay in a currency other than Rands, and your SA credit card will most likely charge a 2.5-3% currency conversion fee. You can mitigate some of this by converting Rands to Dollars, Euro or Pounds via an app such as Shyft, then you can generate a virtual card in that currency, load it with the amount you need to spend, and pay like that.

I booked with through the Standard Bank Travel Mall. Rather safe than sorry.
