Treasury publishes tender blacklist

The National Treasury has posted a list of more than 100 individuals and companies banned from doing further business with the government at all levels.

The Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan, announced in a meeting with parliament's finance committee on Tuesday that the tender blacklist had been posted on the Treasury's website.

The list includes many black and white businessmen and dozens of small companies.

The reasons for blacklisting them range from poor performance to fraud.

Well, it does say "providers" and in the strictest sense, guavamint ministers are not supposed to provide services to government.

While I agree with the motive, it's unprofessional to publish people's ID numbers like that.

Unfortunately, some people are providing services in their personal capacity so how else can you list them?

Thats the problem.. its in the "strictest" sense... it shouldn't be.. they should be listed on national databases in their personal capacity.. and any companies that they have stakes in should also be blacklisted.

I think that that list is only the providers to the treasury department.

Some government departments are probably very difficult to work with and very inefficient, so what is to stop the gov publishing names that someone there decides he/she doesn't like. Is there proof that these people/companies actually underperformed? Maybe they didn't want to accept bribes, and out of spite now find themselves on a blacklist.

Hmm, take away entries from "Department of Local Government & Housing: Limpopo" and there is only about 50 left. So no complaints from anybody really except Limpopo?
